On March 16th, I’ll have been a member of this forum for a year, in which, I learned what a REAL flashlight is, how to solder, how to do a few simple builds, and where the best flashlight minded folks hang out. Right now I’m looking for some suggestions host wise. It’ll have to be something simple, like a Convoy S2+, M1, M2, C8, EE X6, Lumintop Tool (Al Only), and whatever else I may decide after hearing your suggestions. I’ll start a giveaway thread after I go through suggestions and we’ll go from there. The winner will be able to choose from a list of hosts that I approve of, a fet+1 driver, and a led of his or her choice…as long as it’ll run off of a single lithium-ion battery, so 3v leds only. Yes, it has to have a fet+1 because I love power >-) Depending on the host chosen, I may even build a triple. Suggestions please…
I would vote no on the tool unless you like pulling your hair out. Working on those tiny lights and tiny drivers and tiny mcpcb’s is downright stressful. I won’t be in on the giveaway, but I would put a “host” vote to the X6. It’s very nice to work with, and a very usable form factor.

Your giveaway idea gave me an idea to give back to you. Why not you pick all the parts to build a light. Parts that would be relatively easy for a new aspiring modder to put together. Then you send the kit to the winner to complete the build. You could help consult them through the process should they need it. It would be a giveaway with some risk of failure, but at least the winner will have a chance to try their hand at modding for free (not counting tools, which we should all, or want to, have anyway).

Yup, like that idea! I would vote for a C8 or X6 host to start with, fairly large openings in which to solder!
My vote would be for the EE X6 as well, as it’s a bit different than the typical S2/C8 style lights. One I wouldn’t mind adding to my collection…

No, I would love to see an XP-G2 HI! I am always concerned when i de-dome an LED. And, after now owning a few of the HI’s, I really like them. Yes, the EE X6 is an awesome chassis to own, unique light with a great beam!

I modded a tool not too long ago, added a fet that I purchased (already built) from mtn and an XP-L V6. That little fella put out a lot of light. I’m right with you on the X6 though. It’s one of my favorites and super easy to work with.
That thought never crossed my mind…I may give the winner that option just in case they lack the required equipment.
