10 Ultra Thrower comparison video from TLF...

Saw this on the other forum and haven’t seen it mentioned here yet…

Awesome video from TaschenLampenForum Kudos and credit to them

The TLF member did a great job posting the specs of each light in the comparison, so its easy to follow along using the visuals, wish I knew German to understand what he is saying though.

Anyone that understand German want to post the highlights?

Hi Alex,
there are no real Hi lights, and they do not judge or rank the lights.

The site seems to be photography related, so they talk about the use of throwers not only as search lights, but also for photos with darkened background. The other photo related use is in makro photography, where they use the Lupine Flooder for comparison.

There is not much to tell about the video comparison sequences. At the lighthouse they simply show each light with its UI and the tech data. Then the beam intensity and pattern is mentioned.

The technically outstanding light seems to be the Fire Foxes with HID lamp. They tell us it needs 30seconds full of color changes to get to max output. The FF HID seems to bitch sometimes, not igniting at all when batteries are not full or contacts not clean…

In the end the moderator tells us that ultra throwers are nice and useful, but not EDC friendly - too heavy and not pocket able - so he shows us an EDC torch!

Cheers from Vienna
Wolf
PS: please excuse my English and keep in mind I’m new to flashlights

I made a video of my BLF X6 vs convoy L2 vs BLF D80 i do not own to many throwies i should have added in the Nitecore EA41 but it is hard to capture long distances on camera…

For those who don’t want to sift through the 30-minute video, these are the flashlights discussed:

  • Firefoxes FF4 (60W HID), 6000 lumens
  • Eagletac M30LC2 (XM-L2), 1260 lumens
  • Acebeam T20 (XP-L HI), 1500 lumens
  • Acebeam K40S (XP-L HI), 1500 lumens
  • Eagletac MX25L4 (SST-90), 2200 lumens
  • Nitecore TM36 Lite (SBT-70), 1800 lumens
  • Acebeam K60 (XHP70), 5000 lumens
  • Fenix RC40 (6 x XM-L2), 6000 lumens
  • Olight SR95S-UT (SBT-70), 1250 lumens
  • LED Lenser X21R.2 (7 x XP-G2), 3200 lumens

I skipped through the video, but can someone please explain why at the ~2 minute mark, he puts the light on maximum output, & sits there with it shining in his face???

VERY cool video! Thanks!

That’s the photography thing where they darken the background by extremely illuminating the object and set the camera accordingly. So they get a picture where only his face is visible

The K60 and FF4 surprised me. I didn’t think the K60 had the throw that it does and the FF4 seems to have pretty good throw itself…I just don’t like the warm up time of HID lights.

Hi AlexGT,
this Video is not from a TLF User.

Stefan Traumflieger have a shop for Cameras Nikon, Canon usw. in Germany.
He sold even flashlights.

The Lighthouse is 130 metres away.
