Anyone have the Nitecore EC4SW ? (MT-G2 version)

Anyone know of any reviews or feedback on this MT-G2 version?

“Direct access to turbo/ultra-low outputs”

I reviewed the Nitecore EC4SW a while ago.

I have the EC4S and had the EC4SW. Tint was nice on the EC4SW but max output was noticeably less than the EC4S and all levels were also lower. Might have kept it if I didn’t already have the EC4S.

I have one as well. No complaints from me, its a great light. Do be aware though that the combination of the large MT-G2 emitter and the small reflector in that little light results in tons of flood and relatively little throw. I personally much prefer the beam profile from a larger light with MT-G2, like my TN35, but the extra pocketability the EC4SW offers is quite compelling I think.

I’ve had my EC4SW since December 14, 2015. It says EC4S on the body, but it has the MT-G2 Cree. I use it daily at work. I like the massive flood of neutral goodness. To me, it’s more neutral than “warm.” I like it enough to consider getting a second one for home use; perhaps this one would say EC4SW on the body. I use 2 Orbtronic 3500 protected cells in it…

Thanks. After I read the review I decided to hold off on getting one because of the output being no where near the claimed 2000 lumens. But after reading some comments in the CPF thread (link below), I’ve now got it under consideration again.

Thanks for the link, it’s getting a lot of praise over there, makes me want to give one a try, I like the idea of the pure flood light.

Thanks for the info about the flood and tint. I notice there’s a disclaimer about the body stamping in the Nitecore Shop: …

“NOTE: While the EC4SW has the separate packaging from the standard EC4S and the image on the box shows an imprint on the body of the light as saying ”EC4SW,” not all models have the updated imprint and may be labeled as “EC4S.” These items are correct and have the warmer neutral white LED.”

But it appears the ones shipped recently from Gearbest have the W on the light itself.

Ec4s with xhp50 is fantastic. And I don’t ever want another mtg2. If you want flood, pull out the S2. For more flood, pull out the other S2. Etc.
mtg2 generally needs a big light and more batteries to do what a triple tube light will do, with less hassle.

Just curious why not?

Really? With 2000 lumens (claimed) and possibly around 1700 lumens actual for the EC4SW, I have a hard time believing that an s2+ at around half the lumens and a reflector that is only around half the diameter, would rival the floodlight output of an EC4SW.

Can anyone who has both an EC4SW and a s2+ verify the comparison?

I’m planning on building an s3 for a mini flooder, with FET+1 driver and one of these lens:

https://www.fasttech.com/p/1144800

Not sure yet which one of these lens I should use, I’m building this for a pocket-able flooder with magnetic tail.

I’m a NW tint fan, nearly all my lights are NW, so I wanted to try an MTG2 to see what all the fuss is about, I do understand it is not meant to be used for serious throw.

But I figured the larger more powerful EC4SW would outperform the s3 by far.

In reference to my previous post, reading your post again maybe I misunderstood what you were trying to say, for your recommendation to “pull out the s2+ if you want flood” (comparable to EC4SW) maybe you were referring to a custom built triple s2+?

Also please don’t take my response the wrong way, I meant no offense towards you if it sounded that way. I appreciate and value your opinion, I just want to understand it better, I assume you do not own a EC4SW?

Also thanks for your thoughts on the EC4S xhp50, I’m going to look into that one as well.

Not to get off topic, but I have an EC4SW, and have a couple battery questions.

I’m currently using 2 green protected 18650b cells ordered from Bangood or Fasttech.

Is there a real advantage to purchasing the more expensive options like EVVA, Keeppower, or Orbtrobic?

Or are there better cell options in general, optimized for use in the EC4SW?

Thanks!
