Though depending on how well the heat can travel down the center tube the last fins might not do much to help and so tapering them might have no perceivable impact on performance.
I havent made tests or even software simulation, but walls thickness was calculated to avoid heat transfer limitation.
Target of this project – increase consuption power affortable for your hands in real usage. Unfortunately, I cant anodize this batch (will probably try next one) – this could be a little improvement in heat radiation.
I’m probably in for batch #2 especially if I can bundle something else with it to save on shipping (m2 quad perhaps). I also think the last two fins could be tapered slightly. Maybe take 25% material off 2nd fin and 50% off last fin for a good stair step or maybe 33% and 66%.
I think most likely situation it drops on bezel so hope for that and dont worry about the rest. Even if it dropped on its side that would only save it if it hit something flat. Anything with an edge could still damage inner fins either way.

I have to say that this project become possible only when bare bezel was available as spare part. I thankful to all enthusiasts that shown their interest and made it real. Custom SS bezel could make my set unaffordable.
Im planning to make one tool that will give me simple way to mod convoy SS bezel to famous “foybezel”, but I afraid it will took several months to finish it.
Had some time to build a test sample of last project (forgot to mension this earlier. Lets call it C8TT).
I dont have various of leds and cells so I used old V5 XP-Ls triple driven by 20R cell directly. I dont have regular C8 triple in hands so I could compare it only with X6 triple. Im still not sure that using fet based driver is good idea to show heatsink improvement, please use constant current driver if you can.
I dont think that otf output is good value for flashlight measurements, in most cases this numbers are useless unless you are wearing gloves.
I cant take thermal images or any presicion measurements so I can only share my feelings for now.
Calculations dont show big surface area difference. I wont say how much extra watts can dispread this fins but this is not main achievement.
Right combination of fin thickness and tube wall thickness gives great temperature difference between head and battery tube. This allows to heat head as hot as possible for leds life, and hold the light for the same time.
I left flashlight turned on for 5min and take it after and dont feel it hot, then hold it in hands another 5min without any problem. I cant repeat same with X6.
After I turned it off I put cell out (it had 3.6v left). Unbelievably cold. When I put cell out of 10min working X6 (or even single led A6) I never though that cell high temperature was caused by led power. Surely I had to calculate this earlier, but actualy 6-8A is not big stress for low-res cell.
I had never got anything shipped from Russia. Just checked my tracking number, and man it does a lot of moving around in Russia lol. There is 19 tracking updates and its still in Russia.
Dont take this as a complaint, I just thought it was funny to see so much updates with so little movement
So I really want to dip a C8 host (either black or clear) in lye and remove the anodizing after seeing an S41 stripped down that way. I bet it would look pretty cool with kiriba-ru’s custom head.
I have ordered several times from kiriba-ru over the past couple months all packages have been packaged nicely and arrived in a timely manner. Machine work is great and prices are even better. Thanks kiriba-ru I will post some picture shortly.
I had plans for custom Q8 tailcap, I wanted to make longer one to fit reversed tube in 2S2P mod. I passed this idea. Q8 tail is not something that I would like to made in small quantities.
I finally had a chance to open the package I received a couple days ago, everything was very well protected as usual.
Very nice machining on the s2+ pill, and the thin retaining ring looks like it will have no problem clearing any spring-side component. The X6 spacer fits very snugly in the head.
I does work with the Mini C8 tube from Jax but I would not recommend it because the threads are shorter :
The machining and fit and finish is excellent :
The heat sinking is great, it’s cold and windy in Denmark these days, but I used it 10 minutes on high with a fresh VTC5A walking the dog without it stepping down.
We have a saying in Denmark that translates to something like : “More special than pretty” I think that describes the design very well, but I like it .
The tube with the best fit I think is the Sofirn, maybe I will strip the ano of the tube and tail cap, and bead blast it for a more uniform look
Very unique product thanks for making it avaible, it is by far the most “special” in my collection.
Edit :
I haven’t tested the water tightness other than I used it to break the ice on my dogs water bowl and accidentally dropped it in, so at least in shallow water it’s waterproof.

Low-cost copper pills, spacers, optics, drop-ins.

Crude photoshop, not actual product:
I was worry how rigid will be actual head. Thats why last fin is thicker and 1mm bigger diameter – I wanted to prevent bending after falls.

That looks much better!
Much better!
Still, some extra fins could be added, i like a copper head like the S41 for the C8 with smooth bezel, no crenelations.

If you need, I still have one spacer for it.

Recieved mine today, gave it some polish and now it’s good to go
Finaly, proud owner of a Powerex Maha mh c-9000 for my Eneloops:)
Today received my package from kiriba-ru! Packaging was perfect. Thank you!!!!
EE X6 spacer and optics. Excellent
PM sent about convoy s2+ pills.
Any plans on those m2 quads?
Yes will restock them in 2 weeks.

It is OK. It took 5 days to export, much better than 2-3 years ago.

This is how it looks …
my collection and my modding projekts
Did you use the existing driver?
Is it GITD paint? Or tritium?
Yes, GITD powder + tape and yes is the original driver.

The VG10 drawing is good.
Please send me the paymant details

in the meantime, succeeded

Is the thread for the tailcap on the BLF Q8 one of the standard ones you can make, or would it be a special unit please?
If possible, I’d like to discuss making a custom tailcap for this light.
Anything is amphibious if you can get it back out of the water.

No problem – thanks for the quick reply!

I received my C8 “turbohead” the other day securely packed as always from kiriba-ru.:
I build it using Nichia 219C D240 4000K 90+ CRI emitters and a MTN-20DDm FET + 7135 Driver with Bistro.
I don’t have a Convoy V2 so I used a Sofirn new C8 host

I received the s2+ pills yesterday. Thanks Kiriba-ru. The shipping only took a week and a half, I was expecting a month or so. Happy camper here.
