Does anyone use their triples?

One light I have been itching to build is a triple in say an S2+ host. I like the idea of 2k+ lumens in such a small package. Just wondering if anyone actually uses them or are they just good to show off now and again? I don’t really see anything practical in something that will melt my fingers off after 40 seconds. Who am I kidding…half my lights aren’t really good for anything anyhow. Anyway, just wondering if anyone EDCs a triple.

I built a triple with nichia 219c, blf fet +1, in a convoy s3 host. I put in a carclo optic, bypassed the springs and added a magnet around the tail cap button. I have mopydrv firmware that gives good for ability and well spaced modes so so I get three or four practical modes and then “bam!!! In your face!!!” when needed.

I just ordered the stuff for a S2+ Triple.

I have a Sunwayman Sirius that is a triple I use alot.

I’ve got a blue S2+ triple with a fet+1 and XP-L HIs that I carry most of the time.

I use my BLF A6 219C dedome triple every day on the job. If I'm conservative with it and I keep my foot off the pedal it actually takes a long time to kill the batt.

My favorite is a Foy bezel edition Convoy S8 running a FET+1 driver /w BLF A6 firmware and triple XPL V6 3D Dedome. My favorite tint. It has a bigger chunk of copper behind the fire-starters so you have about 7 more seconds to get your fire started before it scorches your hand. ;-)

I use them occasionally, rotationally. Not sure if the M1 quad counts. Only one of them is a XP-L HI, which I just finished building.

I use a S2 triple at work, stoked with 219A WW emitters and a 1.4A three mode drivers, it is very useful with a 2+ hour runtime on high… Beautiful tint for up close work.

I use my Trustfire Mini 02 triple daily

Bare BLF-A6 18350tube A6-FET+7135driver triple Square3000K92CRI here.

It is my EDC and it turned out very functional on low modes, with good runtime. Tint is great. The full 1400lm blast is for recreational purposes

20mm narrow triples have the best usable beam of all optics IMO: wide spot with still good brightness, very modest spill.

I use my Sportac triple nichia 219 in a Solarforce L2N for 1 hour every evening walking my dog, i wouldn’t use it as an EDC because this setup is very heavy (for a one 18650 light) and has only one mode but is perfect for my night walks, very smooth and broad beam, gorgeous tint and high CRI, i actually feel guilty for using this 1 mode 700 lumens light so much.(i also have a modded brynite B58 in my pocket to be able to identify what my dog is running after from afar, and my edc a L10 nichia 219)

The optic and tint really are fantastic. I bought one on a whim but it’s been one of the best discoveries I’ve made.

Use triples or EDC triples? Not the same thing for me. I don’t go out multipitch climbing with possible descents in darkness everyday, so I don’t carry a triple everyday.

When looking for abseil anchors or a path down from a long climb I want a lot of light, but I don’t want a lot of weight or bulk when climbing up (light is right). I normally only need short bursts of full blast for looking around every now and then, so no need for a fat host that can run for minutes at a time. I don’t want a spotlight or a full flood either, something in between. Triples with the narrow lenses are perfect for the job.

I think this depends on the actual setup and use.

I have a triple…

Actually it’s in my pocket right now as my EDC…

It’s this:

It’s works ok.

But it’s not built as a hot rod. It runs 3 x XP-G2 and I’m using a 3.04A Qlite. So max output isn’t silly. And it doesn’t get stupid hot instantly.

I did have a BLF A6 driver in it. Which worked quite well due to all the modes and the moonlight. But I think I prefer it more usable with the Qlite in.

Sure do, just don’t use it on high! Mine is on my nightstand. It has triple XP-G2’s in 4C with a lighted tailcap built to be very dim. I also built the moon mode to be as low as possible, you would not believe how low. It is a very floody, middle of the nigh light that can go bright if needed for power outages and such.

I’m using my triple XP-L X6 as my helmet light and the quad XP-L L2P as my handlebar light for tonight MTB ride.
Both FrankenDale modded, 7000 lumens to scare away the mountain lions

I am also a fan of the X6. Mine has a 3xCREE XP-L V6 3D driven by MTN-17DD.

I use it every night to walk the dog using the lower two modes. Nice to have the higher modes available if needed.

My grey 3*XP-G2 S2 S2+ is also my favorite light.
With 30Qs, it pumps out up to 25W.
The DIY-FET driver from RMM has 6 Modes, so the light is not always flaming hot

Thanks for all the replies. Was just what I was looking for. Only problem now is with all the different combos I have no idea what to build now.

I carry my Convoy S2+ triple 5000k XPL-HI everyday. Here is a video of it compared to a 960 lumen Fenix PD35
