Hi all, I know there are already a few threads about pocket throwers, but none of them past early 2013. And seeing as how technology advances pretty fast, I was wondering if there was an update. When I think of a pocket thrower, I’m thinking that it has to fit these requirements:
1. Truly pocketable - head diameter 30mm or less. I don’t wear skinny jeans, but I don’t wear huge cargos either.
2. No longer than 160mm in length. Anything longer and it’s hard for a normal height person to sit down with it in your pocket.
3. Can throw 200+ meters.
4. Budget friendly would be nice. Less than $40 is good. Less than $30 is great!
5. Stock. I know you can mod the heck out of any light, but I’m looking for something that’s already built to be a thrower. A little modding is not out of the question, but please don’t say, “Buy this body, this, driver, this emitter, this, reflector, sand this down, solder that, cross this wire, drill this tailcap, shave this dog……”
No preference on batteries so AAs and li-ions are all fair game, though I would prefer if rechargeable batteries are accepted (not a fan of CR$$:money_mouth_face:.
I would really suggest the Jax mini C8, it throws well but has an OP reflector so not all of the light goes to throw. I really love mine. I built mine with a warm 4C emitter and a lighted tailcap. the Convoy 2 screw pocket clip will fit it for a deep carry clip.
Awaiting a good answer to this. Personally I don’t think anything can touch the eagletac tx25c for a small thrower. I am wanting an 18650 light more than 16430 though. For am all rounder I am waiting to see how the mh20gt performs. The tx25c2 just seems to have bad modes. I am all ears for a budget option however.
Love the way the Manker performs but its biggest deterrence is its price. Any budget options like it around? I know some people will say you get what you pay for but there has to be a good budget option. I’m honestly looking for convoy quality and price built to throw in a pocketable format.
The T01 should be less than $40 at FT, last time I looked it was $41.xx before applying any coupons.
I have been thinking about modding a Convoy M2 with just driver and led upgrades, but it is still modding and I am not sure how close to the 200m it will reach.
couple years back? Tractor supply had a run of budget lights… had several small zoomies, some cheap 3-d zoomies, THAT period?
they had a light i bought… fairly small light. 1x18650… D-E-E-P reflector for its small size… came with its own cheap charger and cheap 18650…
that was my first reflector “thrower”… that little thing sent its cree emitter i mage 100,200 yards easy… really small potent hotspot… it wasnt anything major in power stock? STILL threw a pencil beam.
i asked on here “what it was” since it was a 30 some dollar “retail” package from tractor supply?? SOMEone on here looked at pictured of it, in a tractor supply thread… and pronounced “what china light it was” and i remember it was a “noted” small thrower people had been “into” on here a while back, they said.
one of these days i am going to go over it and MOD it for some more juice and new emitter? as i cooked the driver and emitter sticking 2xCRxxx into a SINGLE 18650 light, LMAO
Back then there was the Romisen RC-G2, still a great pocket thrower with its XR-E led. The size/throw ratio is still hard to beat.

Good call on the x5 and T01 at FT. Of the two, I’d probably pick the Manker only for battery versatility. How well does that thing throw? Anyone have real numbers?
