Oh yea, over and over. Last contact whatsoever was on 11/13/2017. He said modifications were finished and he just wanted to run further tests. I have repeatedly sent pms and emails. I only opted to post publicly after 5 weeks of silence. I hope he is ok, I assume he is though since he is still posting on various threads here on the blf. I admit to be completely perplexed with his silence. I am sure there is a simple explanation, I just haven’t heard it.
I don’t have solder device.
I will probably buy new cells.
What do you recomend?
30Q are one of the best of the high drain cells. I got 4 button top 30Q for $20 shipped from Banggood on sale. Right now they cost a bit more.
VTC6’s and VTC5’s are also top rated.
Do you know of any electronic repair shops near you. It would take them literally 15 seconds to add a blob to each one. Probably do it for free as well.
Have you considered buying cheap iron and solder and learning to do it yourself? It’s a good thing to know if you like messing with flashlights. Then you can do basic stuff like swapping emitters and drivers. Maybe do some spring bypasses as well. It just takes practice.

I understand that a nice flashlight is out there that you would like to have in your hands but…
It can be hard for a hobbyist to have obligations connected to the hobby. Me, I’m bad at it, I promise people things (usually sending flashlight parts that they even have paid for) and then sometimes it takes me weeks to get to it or I even forget it so I need to be reminded. I’m not proud of that but doing stuff like that takes more effort than simply writing posts on BLF. And because it is not a job but a hobby people who do stuff for others need to be given some slack.

Strange. Tom E has been online quite recently; minutes ago. Frustrating for you Joey. I don’t know what to suggest? Should a bunch of us send “hope you are well; Joey needs your attention“PM’s?

I agree MtnDon, both strange & frustrating for Joey Adams I can only imagine. And certainly strange that Tom would not reply in some way at least.
I am at a loss at what to suggest also…..

Sony Konion US18650VTC5A 2600mAh – 35A button top
Sony Konion US18650VTC6 3120mAh – 30A button top
LG INR18650-HG2 3000mAh – 20A button top
Samsung INR18650-30Q 3000mAh – 15A button top
Sanyo NCR18650GA 3350mAh – 10A Button Top
The Q8 is a high drain light. It can pull 15 to 16 amps total. So that is 4 amps per cell.
Those are all good. I would go for the ones with a good price.
The Sanyo GA has a chemistry that gives it longer run time and a bit less amp output, so it would probably be last on the list. If you only care about max brightness. If you don’t mind a slightly less max lumens, then the GA will give a bit longer run time.

I want a cool white light about as much as I want Cool Ranch Soda.

Thank you all for the solder blob compliments.
I’m a bit bored during the Christmas holidays and I’m still waiting for my light thus I tinkered a bit more with the blobs.
I used 800 grid paper to sand the blobs down.
Wrapped some tape around the cells and put them into the tube of my Convoy S2+.
The bigger surface of the tube helps to get a perfectly aligned grinding. Just press with one finger onto the cell and scrape the cell and the tube over the paper.
Now they look more like button top cells.
Just have to wait for my flashlight to arrive now.
Does anyone know the sizes of the o-rings? The bezel and the battery tube please.
All I have is a tape measure. It reads about 2inch/50-51mm and 1.5inch/38mm… Not sure it’s accurate enough.
I just disassembled a second-batch Q8 to measure the grooves and o-rings for you with a caliper.
The battery tube’s o-ring grooves are approx 47.9mm. The o-rings measures approx 41.0mm when relaxed. Their thickness is approx 1.4mm.
The bezel’s o-ring groove is approx 52.0mm inner diameter. The o-ring measures approx 54.0mm inner diameter when relaxed. Its thickness is approx 1.8mm. Yes, I measured the o-ring as larger than the groove it sits in.
Missed that….

Thank you for your answers regarding flat top cells.
30q are already out off q8.
Can I use Panasonic ncr18650b button top? These are only button top cells I have at this moment.
Or should I buy better cells?
Thank you
Panasonic B are fine cells. They don’t produce as many lumens as the 30Q, but they run longer.
It’s best to use 4 identical cells. Same age, number of charges, etc…
Can you add solder blobs to the 30Q? That’s what I would do.

How many amps cell do I need for Q8?
Which of these cells would you buy?

Definitely. I never thought I’d think solder “boobs” (???) were good looking, but those certainly are.

I’m not replacing the o-rings.
A member asked if I knew the o-ring sizes. Instead of guessing, thought I’d ask here and share link to thread with them.
In some ways, I miss when this thread was 300 new posts a day, in others less so
