What’s the difference between your C8’s and this one:

many thanks!!

Well for starters, his C8’s are direct drive and pulling somewhere around 5.5 amps vs the stock 2.8 at Mountain. This increases the throw substantially. He has also bypassed the tail spring straight through to the switch to reduce resistance and prevent spring collapse and or melted switch.

He builds good lights. I can attest to that. I’m very happy with the one I bought from him.

Edit: Based on my own DD C8 XP-L HI build I would expect his light to throw around 650 to 700 meters with a capable battery vs 400 or so meters for the stock C8.

Thanks! I assume the stock version is going through a regulator of some sort?

What would the lumen comparison be stock vs this unit?

I’m sure I’d want to mod mine so if this one comes ready to go, that’d be appealing.

Yes the stock version is regulated at 2.8 amps. I have no idea on the lumens but that’s not what’s important on this light. The candela (hotspot intensity) determines the amount of throw. Think of it as a spotlight. There is very little light in the spill outside the hotspot. It’s mostly in the middle. Not very good if you’re trying to light up an entire field just in front of you but brilliant if you’re looking to see what’s in the distance.

Oh and btw, welcome to blf. If you’ve got a few hours to kill, browse the threads that interest you. This place is an amazing resource of flashlight knowledge.

Thanks! And yes, not too terribly long ago I would have settled with a AA maglite as an upgrade from the 2x C cell yellow flashlight with the black switch that you’d find at Walgreens. Glad those days are gone! It’s amazing what you learn at this place.

IMO, for 30 bux shipped this modded c8 is a no brainer. I wish I had bought it first instead of the banggood c8 I had bought. I now have no use for the banggood c8, it is completely inferior, compared to this modded version.

PM’d.

I’ll take a C8 Xpl-hi if you still have one.
