The clear anodizing came out better than I could have hoped for.
Convoy is not making a clear S2+ at this time but based on the sample it seems unlikely that it would not see production.
I think it would look great with a black stainless switch and a black clip but that’s just my opinion.
What do the rest of my BLF friends think?
I voted for the rubber button by the way. I’ve never had anything against them, and for my tailcaps they work much better.
Stainless can’t be anodized as far as I know. We could make the switch in aluminum and anodize it. As far as options for stainless a painted switch was shot down immediately. The only acceptable options IMO are either a black oxide coating or PVD and it looks like it will probably be PVD. I understand about your tail caps, but keep in mind Simon plans to make the rubber seal clear from here on out to accommodate your lighted tailcap and that thin glowing ring in the s2+ stainless switch looks awesome IMO. Of course I also love pretty much all of the lighted tail switch setups you’ve done as does Simon.
If we forget all about the illuminated tailcap (because Simon has no plan to produce them and I think that’s a good decision) then it’s all down to preference of feel under your finger/thumb. I think the metal switch has a more “premium” feel to it, but I still like the normal silicone better personally.
If you have the ability to add your own illuminated tailcap, now that Simon has made the clear seals you can do it with either switch. It probably looks fancier with the metal switch, but is absolutely more functional for locating with the silicone button.
I wonder if it’s possible to have the screw-out part of the metal switch enlarged so that you could swap out the whole metal switch with silicone if you wanted to? That’d require a major re-working though.
Normal so I can use a white one
And if I install a clip (why not metal colored instead of black???) I can always use a black rubber booth if there are not metal colored clips, I mean clear metal color body screams metal colored clip! Right?
Also I am fine with a metal switch like the red s2+

The convoy clip is already going to be black. Each variation you create adds costs. So if I was Simon3, I wouldn’t make a 2nd clip color. Just doesn’t seem worth it.
IMO unless the clear anodizing and standard stainless switch are the exact same colour it’s going to look out of place.
If the light has the clip fitted I think black stainless switch. Without the clip fitted, the rubber boot pictured looks good.
That was my thinking too. Brushed stainless and bare aluminum do not look the same.
To answer The Miller, the deep carry clip we have now cannot be made in a polished version. It was tried and did not work. That’s why the clips are black. To make the clips in a polished version we would have to redesign the S2+ body with a wider groove. Even if we did that, it’s a stainless clip on an aluminum body so a perfect match is not possible.
Clear boot, for a lighted tailcap! Why isn’t this one of the choices? :/
Simon is the one who stocked the clear boots for all you light-up guys so that wouldn’t be a problem if you’re ordering directly from Simon you could probably have that swapped out with a simple message in your order if the majority wants a rubber boot. This was really meant to be more about the metal switch color choice for a clear anodized version in my mind but that is why I made it a poll. If more people want a rubber switch than the metal one that can probably happen but lets not forget this picture from emarkd… I’m surprised that’s not desired more than a clear boot in the case of the S2+ but I’m just one opinion.
Of course I’d assume emarkd would also be in my camp based on those photos but who knows…
Ok so having never done a poll before I really don’t understand how they work. Is anyone reading this familiar with them? Can I see a running tally or can I only see the numbers when it’s finished? I set it for three weeks if I recall correctly. I appear to have the option to cast a vote myself but I haven’t. I figure that might be considered bad form or something. Not to mention I know what choice I’d make.

Those endcaps look amazing, i hope some modder will sell those. So the ring inside the switch is iluminated?

Don’t forget about the Convoy S7, which has a polished steel host and a rubber boot. The boot is easy to switch out to any color you want. It’s also a bit narrower than other 18650 tube lights since the steel doesn’t need to be as thick to get the same strength, and it’s much more resistant to wear.
However, it’s also heavier and can’t shed heat as well, so not a good choice for a triple.
I’ve got a black boot on mine right now, but the plan is to give it a clear boot and fancy lighted tailcap.

Here is the clear anodized sample:
Black metal button!
Who’s with me?!

I think it should be an option along with the tint and 7135 chips.
Would the black be painted? Can you anodize SS?

I like the sample just the way it is (with the normal rubber boot)! I think it would look great with a lighted tailcap.

I like the standard boot, the SS switch looks nice for the rubber boot is nicer to use. The white boot looks really good on this light.
Yea clear is good so youbcan add a light…

It would be nice to see pictures of the silver and the black switch side-by-side.
Wow, that looks great! Someone mod these, a triple, and a lighted tailcap. They would sell.

I like plain stainless. I will also buy 1-2 hosts. Black button is likely to wear and look terrible.
doesn’t the rubber tail-cap offer more waterproofing?

I would never get behind a button that would wear and look terrible. Give me a little more credit than that Gunga. Sheesh!
Yes, that the main reason I haven’t bought one red, blue, or green S2+ lights.
I voted black metal button. It rules. Good design choice.

well, id go for either a lghted or white rubber boots tailcap and forget about a clip then

LOL. Now that’s too funny. Thanks PD.

Thanks! Yes, its got an illuminated board inside the switch which glows up through the nylon bushing around the metal switch. Looks like this:
You can build them yourself. Everything you need is in PilotDog’s thread here: http://budgetlightforum.com/node/37851
But yes, I do have plans to build a few to sell. Just waiting on a couple more parts, and some spare time.
