Acebeam K70 Lemon (Problem) Thread

I know some people have posted in other threads about issues with their Acebeam K70 but I’d like to consolidate those into one thread if at all possible. If you don’t mind, please post any issues you have with your K70 here…where and when you got it as well, if you are willing to disclose that information.

I purchased my K70 on 3-17-16 and received it on 4-12-16. The first time I turned it on it worked just fine on modes 3-6, modes 1 and 2 worked either intermittently or not at all. I took the battery carrier apart, like AlexGT did his, and cleaned it. After that, I didn’t have any issues but I’ve only used it a few times and mostly on high because…if I’m going to use a thrower, it’s gonna be on the highest modes.

It’s just been sitting in the box for the last couple of weeks because it’s just too bulky for me and didn’t really want to carry it around. Today, I decided to sell it and it sold pretty quick. The buyer asked about any possible issues with the light, as he’d read where K70 drivers were whining, blue tint to the hot spot, and lower modes not working.

I pulled the light out of the box to see if my wife could hear any whining, as I’m 39 and can’t pick up on that level any longer but with her being 25…she’s still got dog ears, lol. She said that she can hear it starting on mode 3 and only gets louder when it hits mode 6. I left it on hight for about 4 minutes and then it started to flicker a little, never turned blue though, however, it’s back to only modes 3-6 working. Modes 1 and 2 only work after the light has been off for a while. I immediately let the buyer know and refunded his money.

At this point I’m severely pissed off about having almost sold a member a flashlight that doesn’t function correctly. Thus light us brand new and should not be having these types of issues. This is the first Acebeam product that I’ve ever owned and most likely my last. I’ve PM’d the person I purchased it from in order to know how to proceed. A refund seems like the best course of action at this point.

My k70 well be delivered tomorrow wish me luck!

Aww man, don’t jinx it like that! Mine shows up tomorrow… I’ll be sure to report any issues I encounter.

Mine had a buzzing noise but it went away after some use without any intervention on my part, the other problem was flickering on the lower levels, but those went away after disassembly and a thorough cleaning of the battery carrier. Now the light works perfect, no complaints!

I wish everyone the best of luck with theirs and no jinx intended, lol.

What!?!?! Oh man. I really hope my k70 coming tomorrow is not broken... :(

Mine had a severe whining noise on the highest mode, I disassembled and improved all contacts of the battery carrier but ultimately it was the use and wear of the top spring that removed the noise. It seems like the springs came with a coating of some sorts that has to be worn out.

Working fine now, but only time will tell.

Edit #1: I thought the whining was gone but just tried a set of fresh cells and it is still there. It almost seems like it only whines when the batteries are full.

You’d think we would learn not to buy MicroBlueBear flashlights after so many issues with so many of their different models… Apparently not because I too have a K70. :zipper_mouth_face: :person_facepalming:

Mine might be a little blue on max, but I’ve only compared it outdoors side by side with my BTU Shocker with XPL-HI 3C. It seems otherwise fine…

Mine came with black spots onto led:-(

Black dots on the LED usually means it being over-driven or not sufficient heat sinking… maybe I’ll check mine out to see if there’s lack of thermal paste.

Flashpilot warned us but I really wanted one, this is BS.

Bad soldering to the DTP board, had this issue on Lumintop SD75, need to reflow the led, also was change to blue in high mode.
After reflowing no problem

Could people state where they got theirs from?

Grrrr…. I should have known better also. Mine is also inbound via snailmail (PostNL). We really shouldn’t have to deal with such a flaky light for the premium price of this product.

I’m thinking this might be going right up on eBay upon receipt.

People are probably not going to tell you, at least publicly, because Acebeam will come down hard on the seller for violating MAP.

I should have one with whining issue soon, fellow hunter bought and is shipping it to me for a inspection!

Very common for these high-drain lights to have a whine when in the higher modes. The whine is not PWM, but actually due to the high current draw for these drivers. I don’t think this is a lemon, but is actually a fact of the design. The lower modes not working is a problem though.

Either way I personally can’t stand high pitch noise coming from the flashlight, so if it’s a design feature they should mention that so we could avoid buying. I had several cases of those but it was PWM so driver replacement was a solution if possible, if not, I gave them away…

I thought it was the twin overhead gerbils spinning up the actual turbo in the light engine? No? Still think light like these need a haptic driver that has a little recoil shake when on turbo, just a physical bump when turbo is activated…

I don’t hear much high frequency, so no complaints on mine, though it could be there… No low mode issues so far either… Keeping my fingers crossed, it is a heck of a thrower….
