How about magnet wire…

… as driver to baseplate conductors?

I have a good deal of it “at hand” and, although i haven't found evidence of any other using it for this purpose, its characteristics seem pretty good for an effective routing of power where space is at a premium.

Should work. Coating integrity can vary a lot. Radio Shack for example is not very good. You need to be careful to clean the ends before soldering.

Well, sounds gnarly enough. I was anyway going to strip off the windings of an old AC transformer so, two for one. Since it's not going to undergo much rubbing, jostling and/or bending, it should be pretty fine (either that or I'll put the led on uncanny direct drive or short-circuit the batteries lol).

I presume a lighter is all I'll need to prepare the wire tips before soldering…

I scrape with a blade. If it’s good coating it’s pretty heat resistant, though a flame would take it off. But then you’d have burnt crap there and need to clean that off anyway.

That must be some transformer!

Assuming the wire gauge is sufficient to carry the current you’ll need, I’d have to guess the insulation is probably pretty ‘set’ by now & may not survive the trip to its new home. But, there’s always Heat Shrink…

I’d be curious to know the gauge of the wire you’re getting, and what transformer it came out of. Sounds like a good idea to me, within reason.

There are a few different coatings used, and from trying to remove them I can tell you some are nearly indestructible. It’s the hobby “EZ strip” stuff that burns off in a few seconds that you want to avoid, the industrial stuff requires a surprising amount of heat or abrasion to remove and is quite flexible.

This…

… and the lady by the right, which uses AWG24 too at its secondary; pinkish coating. Pretty old, unused stuff.

Should do good.

Aiming for 4'2-4'8A, 22AWG standard wire was somewhat unconfortably tight on my pill but this way I can use two AWG24 magnet wires in parallel because of its ovoid holes.
