Test/Review of 2A Dual EU USB Wall AC Adapter

2A Dual EU USB Wall AC Adapter

Official specifications:

  • Color: White

  • Plug Type: EU Plug

  • Output: DC 5V 2A(Max)

  • Input: AC100-240V, 50-60Hz, 0.35A

  • Dimension: Approx.6.8(L) x 3.6(W) x 2.1(H)cm

I got it from Ebay dealer: sanheshun I ordered the “HTC One M7 M8 M9” model

Measurements
  • Power consumption when idle is 0.14 watt

  • Top usb output is coded as Apple 1A

  • Bottom usb output is coded as Samsung

  • All outputs are in parallel.

Each output can deliver 1.6A before output protection trips.

And because they are in parallel the total output is also 1.6A.

I could draw 1.4A for 1 hour without any problems.
The temperature photos below are taken between 30 minutes and 60 minutes into the one hour test.

M1: 72,5°C, M2: 72,4°C, HS1: 77,1°C
HS1 is the transformer and M1 is the rectifier diode.

M1: 69,3°C, HS1: 84,5°C
HS1 is the rectifier diode.

M1: 70,3°C, M2: 72,1°C, HS1: 78,0°C
HS1 is the rectifier diode and M1 is the transformer.

M1: 49,4°C, HS1: 68,0°C
HS1 at the back of the usb connectors is the transformer.

M1: 69,6°C, HS1: 72,3°C
M1 is the rectifier diode and HS1 is the transformer.

Noise at 0.5A load is 50mV rms and 856mVpp

Noise at 1A load is 71mV rms and 734mVpp

Tear down

Some pressure in my vice and it popped open.

On the input there is a resistor instead of a fuse, then the bridge rectifier. Besides the usb connectors is a blue 1000 volt capacitor than will short when the voltage gets too high (Very bad). The rectifier diode is D3.

On this side there is a switcher IC.

The usb connectors and the coding is place on a small circuit board that is connected to the main circuit board with wires.

Between mains and low volt side there is supposed to be over 6mm, here it is around 1.5mm (Very bad).

The charger failed a 2500 volt test and shorted between low volt side and mains, this makes the charger dangerous everywhere.

Conclusion

This charger cannot deliver rated current, has some noise on the output and very bad safety, stay away.
