Review: GsYuasa Enitime AAA Ni-Mh LSD batteries

GsYuasa Enitime AAA Ni-Mh LSD batteries

Reviewer's Overall Rating: ★★★★

Summary:

Battery chemistry:
Ni-Mh
Size/Category: AAA
Special things:
LSD (80% after a year)
Capacity:
800mAh

Price Payed: 8.13 $
From: DealExtreme
Date Ordered:

July 2011

Pros:

  • True capacity as claimed (800mAh)
  • Very good build quality
  • Seems to be real LSD technology

Cons:

  • From the 2 packs received (with 2 months of difference), I measured the batteries in one pack and they were at 1,2 - 1,3 volts... while in the other pack the batteries were at 1,1 - 1,2 very low volts.
  • There is a cheaper option (not tested by me) with 50mAh more capacity (http://www.dealextreme.com/p/btone-rechargeable-1-2v-850mah-aaa-batteries-4-piece-pack-91884?r=43033281)

Features / Value: ★★★★

Some months ago I ordered those batteries, and a few days latter I ordered another pack. So I have 2 packs.

At least in paper, reading what it claims in the package, they look tempting. 800mAh AAA LSD batteries in a pack of 4 for 8,13$... and it reads in the package they hold up to the 80% of the charge after a year.

OK let´s take my Imax and test their capacity.

Then, I will try to do a long-run test, long-time capacity measurement to see how much they can hold.

Design / Build Quality: ★★★★★

Not much to say. Watch the package and the batteries itself and take a conclusion. They look good.

They doesnt have any "venting" hole, or they are "hidden".

Capacity test: ★★★★★

I have used my Imax B6 to test them. Take into account that, I still dont know to use it completely, and I have issues with the "delta peak" charging Ni-Mh batteries, so...

The procedure of charging and discharging has been made in this way:

Discharge: 0,3A down to 0,9v

Charge: 0,3A up to fully charged (some problems with the "delta peak" and the Imax, but not due to to batteries itself, I still trying to solve that issue... maybe the nedymiun magnets and the springs I use with the imax...)

The first pack has this measurements of voltage:

When received (charged from factory): . 1.278 1.278 1.280 1.281
After the first charge:................. 1.405 1.401 1.410 1.450
After a day (first cycle):................. 1.378 1.379 1.380 1.369

After 5 complete charge and discharge cycles, the capacity results measured with the Imax are (charge mode):

767 802 771 799

If you dont beleive or dont trust my tests, you check the photos in DX page, one user posted a photo showing the capacity measured with an inteligent charger with LCD display, you can see measures of 947, 834, 908, 1191 mAh.

The second pack, is completing their 5 complete full cycles of charging and discharging. I will update the post with the results. But as I said, they arrived in a very dissapointing charge condition, the first discharge result gave me pityfull results similar to 130, 110, 50, 70 mAh or something like that... I dont remember...

I think those batteries were manufactured more than 1 or 2 years ago, and stored in a wharehouse for a very long time, that´s why those low voltages when receiving them....

Low Self Discharge test: ★★★★

I will try to test them after a year resting with no use. I will try to keep at least 2 of them without being used. Completely charged and not used in a year, then check their voltage and their capacity after a discharge test in the Imax.

In a short-time period, lets say a week, they seem to keep the charge very well.

After a week (pack 1): 1,37n 1,38n 1,39n 1,36n

After 1 month (pack 2): 1.328 1.325 1.323 1.326

It seems that they hold the charge pretty good, at least, after a month... take into account that the most high self-discharge will occurr during the first month...

I have to do a discharge test to see the remaining capacity after a month...

Summary: ★★★★

I dont give 5 full stars because there is a cheaper option with 50mAh more capacity (but, again, not tested by any person yet).

If those new B-Tone batts are not what they promise, these GsYuasa will receive the 5 full stars.

Maybe some people will prefer real Eneloops for a bit more of money...

Good review , thank you ...

No, not good at all because the methodology (sorry for the word) is not the correct. I repeat that I have problems with the "delta peak" with ALL ni mh batteries and the Imax, still without knowing how to solve...

So results may be not accurate at all, but "orientative"

I bought these some time ago, they held up the charge reasonably well, they are LSD batteries for sure.

Too bad I cannot remember on what voltage they ended after a couple of months.

Dont worry, I will try to check it, I have 2 units left with no use

at least we know there not 200 or 150mAh batteries wrapped nicely ...

Yes, at least, at least...

Among the batteries sold at DX, I only trust in B-Tone brand, GP brand, GsYuasa Brand...

After 30 days, the resting voltages are:.............. 1.328 1.325 1.323 1.326

How do you see the results?

(yes, I have to do a discharge test to know the remaining capacity...)
