My l6 has high pitch sound Updated

I noticed it, and asked my wife if she could hear it, she was 7 feet away or so.
What can I do? It’s obnoxious.??!!
Thank you all for your help and suggestions.

I pm j-dub, back and forth , he spent hours of his own time out of his schedule to help me out, even when he was busy with planting his garden he made time to listen to my concerns, and give me suggestions. . I ended up emailing Simon, as he had suggested, and Simon took my concerns very seriously. He went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied, and all in a very timely manner.
The level of dedication they both showed me was more than I could ever have expected.
I have tried dealing with high end manufacturers, and got the run around. J-dub and Simon are top notch. As far as I know, J-dub is not affiliated in anyway with convoy, he just enjoys this hobby as much as any of us. I really appreciate the time and help from both of them.
Simon stands behind his convoy name.
All is well :+1:

Oh that is annoying!
Hope you can fix it somehow, subbed
(Used a longer cell to compress springs more?)

Maybe… Using basens. Had to solder s blob to make contact… Is this my fault? :person_facepalming:

It is often the springs. You could try bypassing the springs so the current goes mostly through the bypass wire and not the spring. I’ve also had luck with damping the vibrating part with something soft like soft potting (duct sealing compound mixed with silicon carbide). You can normally figure out which end it’s coming from moving your ear along the light.

Sounds like head end. Springs are factory bypassed. The retainer ring feels tight already as well. I want to go on long hike tonight and put it through the paces. But mode 3 seems like perfect mode I would like it to be silent.

Could be a driver component or even still the springs. I recall having a light that whined after bypass, even with only a 3A driver, eventually I just packed soft potting around the base of both springs, covering the 7125s that were on the bottom of the board and filled the driver cavity. Dead silent now. The high frequency whine is generally easy to dampen.

Am I the only one that has this issue with L6? Do all of them do this?

Wonder if an electrically conductive treatment on the driver contact surfaces would help. I use NO-OX-ID quite often. Of course it's hard for me to hear a whine anyways - I rarely have heard them, and usually it was improving ground contacts that did the trick.

I thought whining was commonly a bad ground …at the driver ?

My L6 does not produce whining sound, may be due to non-high-drain dual 26650 cells. However based on my experience dealing with FX-30 drivers (I bought 6 of them and burned 4, left 2, one in Courui), when using triple cells (12V), the 3rd mode produce the whining quite loud enough to be heard even 7 feet away if the environment is quiet enough.

Get a piece of wire, take the tail cap off, push batteries down against the driver spring and jump from the ground (battery tube) to back battery and cycle to the level the noise is coming from, is the noise still present? Should eliminate harmonics from batteries and springs, and point to driver, if the noise is still present? I have never had this problem in any light, just thought it out, maybe this might help?

Its fairly normal it happens a lot with 7135 driver board.

I will have to try jumping connection with springs pushed in. I cleaned head and tail connections. Made sure the retaining rings and body are tight. It is still there in mode 3. I don’t like the sound, This should not be. Is there a driver I can buy from mtn to fix this sound?
A new light should not need a new driver though.

I’m wondering if the driver is no good

Could be a few things mate
Bad solder joint
corrosion
Bad power channel
What driver does the L6 use?
Take a photo of the driver if you can? its probably nothing serious.

The only thing I can think of, is maybe the e-switch (-) wire is caught (mine was soldered to the driver ground ring) between the driver base and driver bay ledge/pocket of the light, creating a gap, might want to try and re-seat it move the driver around and tighten the retainer, ring? Mine worked fine, and I haven’t heard of any problems with noise yet on J-Dubs thread. http://www.kaidomain.com/product/details.S024847

Mine makes a noise and yes it’s loudest on 3rd level. Lots and lots of drivers make this noise tho, some people can’t hear it but I certainly can.

My Maxtoch also whines and my XinTD C8 along with many others. If you are sensitive to the frequency you will find lots of drivers make this noise.

Yeah, being sensitive must suck? I like Richard’s (RMM) driver’s ,no whine, no noise, no drama, you just put it in, and they put it out!

Inductors are also notorious for whining, I wonder if that white shmoo on the inductor was put there to dampen the whine and based on how much is there or how well it’s applied it may whine more or less, maybe you need to add something around that coil.
