Fascinating. Lately i have been thinking about path dependence, the last time i read the wikipedia article it was very confined in its implications. If A leads to B leads to C and in general we aim for improvement of the human condition then it explains why the last several millennia has shown progress, though very slow and very painful. We also have to contend with those who prefer to reverse progress that has been made.
I think this Schelling fence is overthinking, we do not have to define irrationality as an arbitrary point, we can instead go by logic, by thinking ahead one can figure out how much sleep one needs, how long it takes to fall asleep on average and wake up/getting ready and transport to work and establish a bed time. Going further one can use melatonin or blue light blocking glasses to advance the body clock and feel tired earlier, though i would typically only suggest this if medically indicated. I suspect this hypothetical person is a night owl and not a morning lark

Hi J-Dub74, here’s the link to see your posts that were flagged, if any: http://budgetlightforum.com/my-problem-posts Sorry I haven’t figured out a way yet to make this menu link only appear for logged-in users, so it’s not on the left-hand column yet.
I’m still reading, so maybe someone else has already mentioned this, but I’d think making the Rudeness Meter itself clickable, linked to /my-problem-posts might be neat.

Good idea! Not sure how easy it will be to do technically though.

I don’t either but I love the idea and if anyone can pull it off, you can. Perfect way to access your own problem posts.
I also wanted to give you a tip-of-the-hat SB for the way the rudeness meter is displayed now. Hat
When I stayed up way too late reading the 300 or so posts as of last night when I found this thread I saw a few people were disturbed by being smacked in the face with a rudeness meter while browsing BLF
I must admit that concerned me too while reading about it. You’ve changed it since that statement was made though. The positioning, scale and color choice you’ve adjusted it to make it all but invisible now while “BLFing” at least as a non-offender. Just another aspect of this move that has been well thought out and expertly executed. I wish I lived close enough to truly buy you a beer. Beer Thumbs Up

Facepalm means oh good grief, :LOSER: is the insult one(right hand Palm out, 3 fingers curled).

Three Tanna leaves to give him life, nine to give him movement. But what if he eats the whole bag?

I think facepalm Facepalm is up for interpretation. To me it means that you find something completely absurd, ridiculous. And by extension the person who said such a thing, might be an idiot. If you wish to take it that way.
And honestly I tend to see it that way myself.

But I do kind of like our new facepalm simley. Innocent
I just wish we didn’t have to lose our confused one Which seemed to happen at the same time as when facepalm and thumbs-up appeared. Poor confused, he’s been banished along with santa and my favorite ghost

I think I have only Facepalm my own posts so far, I tend to see it as the fail or absurd emoji depending on context. I have been using Sushi a bit lately, someone possibly Halo… said it never gets used so I thought it would be good to work it into conversation more often, not that sushi makes any sense but it is tasty.

No emoticon set is complete without a facepalm.

I wondered why his fist was getting bigger… then it hit me. Facepalm

I was afraid as I jumped over the bottomless pit… but then I got over it. Facepalm

Have I told you about the broken sword? Nevermind, it’s pointless. Facepalm

Exit signs are all the rage in the new buildings these days, but I think they’re on the way out. Facepalm

Using a shovel as a weapon? What a groundbreaking idea! Facepalm

Why did they leave the catapult unattended? Its operator was out to launch! Facepalm

Why didn’t the ghost go to the dance? He didn’t have any body to go with! Facepalm

I applied for a job at the juice bar… I said, “put me to good juice!” Facepalm

Why did the king go to the dentist? He needed a new crown! Facepalm

I hurt my hand preparing cheese for some pasta, but that’s okay. I have grater problems to worry about. Facepalm

Why was it called the Dark Ages? Because there was no shortage of knights! Facepalm

I tried to tell the gunslingers about traditional melee weapons, but they would hear nothing of the sword. Facepalm

Why didn’t the skeleton share the bad news? He didn’t have the heart. Facepalm

Did you hear about the scarecrow which won a prize? It was totally outstanding in its field. Facepalm

I know a guy who is addicted to brake fluid. He says he can stop any time. Facepalm

Thanks for putting up with my bad humor. I’d ask for a tip, but a well-told pun is its own re-word. Facepalm

Now, those mere puns may have only merited a regular facepalm…

… and when things get especially bad, some situations call for the distinctive double facepalm:

But most importantly, I hope you never personally encounter a need for the triple facepalm.

Try wrapping the div through /div in a classic link tag. Like so:

<a href='/my-problem-posts'>            ....            </a>

That will make the control clickable, and give it the default hover cursor.

He’s probably just taking a much needed vacation this weekend. It’s what I was doing.
But it does get me wondering what happens in case he were to vanish for good. I understand this whole site is run by just him. I suppose it would end when the domain expired or the host was not paid. And until that day it would not have anyone to enforce the rules. The spam and rude button have little power without SB.

A site owner can read a site without being logged in, ya know.
Sometimes he might just want to watch without being on call.

Sssshhh.

Keyhole

By Murray Leinster

There’s a story about a psychologist who was studying the intelligence of a chimpanzee. He led the chimp into a room full of toys, went out, closed the door and put his eye to the keyhole to see what the chimp was doing. He found himself gazing into a glittering interested brown eye only inches from his own. The chimp was looking through the keyhole to see what the psychologist was doing.
