DIY lumen measuring device. Integrating shpere, and lumen tube.

Hi all,

I made this vid to show a couple of cheap easy ways to build a measurement system. You wont get lab grade results from these, but you can get a fairly accurate test with a little bit if fine tuning.

Thanks for watching.

Thanks, excellent video! It’s time for me to build one of these lumen tube. Ceiling bounce are getting me inconsistent results lately…

Great idea, Matt! I was just looking at some PVC in the Shed wondering what I was going to do with it. LOL

Would a beer brewing sphere be a useful thing to adapt ?

Dude! Your my hero! What an awesome video! BLF Superstar!!

Thank you for explaining all this stuff in a way anyone could understand and implement. I have the meter and know which dumpsters to get upside down in. And my brother owns a plumbing company so I can go raid his truck. lol!

Thanks!!

Thanks for the support gang :+1:

You could use that. You would probly need to darken the outside with paint or tape etc to keep light from escaping since the walls are thin/clear ish. The large hole could be your flashlight entry and the small for your sensor. With a round ball you will also need to make a baffle to block light from the sensor coming directly from the flashlight.

djozz has some a good example of the baffle here.

Ahhhh expanded polystyrene seems perfect, even the textured surface would help increase dispersion and avoid internal reflection.

I spotted this amazing one after posting.

Great video!

I love the brutally simple build with the dirty box and I think you described it precisely as it is: it gives very useful and objective ballpark measurements (your eyes will never be able to do that) without being overly accurate. Good enough for 99% of what a flashoholic wants to know.

Your lumen-tube works better with different beam shapes than I would have expected, nice demo with the Maglight! What is very helpful for this is the immediate 90 degrees bend once the light exits the flashlight, not sure that is done on purpose but it helps!

Thanks for the vid VOB.

Thanks for watching gang.
