WHATS THE BRIGHTEST CONVOY C-8 (or) C-8 STYLE LIGHT ?

I have more ??’s about the C-8’s.

1—Who makes the BRIGHTEST C8 ?

2—What’s the brightest LED/Emitter for the C8 ?

3—Where to buy the brightest/most throw C8 ?

Hey mate the brightest standard C8 would probably be a XML2.
The longest throwing standard C8 would be with a XPLHI.
Do you want a C8 from a store or a modded C8? Heaps of people on here regularly sell modded C8s.

Now this thread MUST be getting good!

XinTD C8 for all if you don’t want to mod. You can choose the emitter for throw or brightness.
But if you in modding or building…
Mine is a Convoy C8 host, XP-L HI V2 3A led on noctigon, BLF A17DD driver, 22awg wire bypassed springs, and it makes 5A on turbo and I can clearly see it light at 500m. On this pic the building is 200m from me.

Store bought would be ok , but also who on the BLF is selling a modded and so to speak hi-power C-8 right now ?!

perhaps send djburkes a PM for modded C8.

I would have to agree with Zozz. I have the XinTD XPG2-S4 and it’s a great thrower for a small stock light.

I think you will have to decide over total power or throw.

If you can build one with direct drive using a XPG3 i would recommend that it is a good mix between throw and brightness…

I am sure some one will build one for you!

I’ve been aware of him. He has a post here on BLF , where he was selling some C8’s

but he sold out . He’s waiting for more supplies to start his sale thread again.

ZozzV6 , That’s a good looking picture of your C8 lighting up the buildings. You built it ?

Yep, should have some in a couple of weeks.

Thank you! Yes I built it. Here is a photo gallery about the build and comparison of old vs new C8 host
Now the only change from photos is that the XP-L centering ring arrived and replaced the XML one.

:+1:

Building a C8 from a host then adding driver and LED is really easy, a five minutes job at most. I could even do it for free if I was in the US.

If you are willing to do some soldering all the parts can be found on mtnelectronics, I recommend Convoy C8 host, XPL HI on 20mm mcpcb, 17mm FET+1 (old purple version) or H17F driver, AR coated glass and 9mm XP centering ring. Bypass the springs, add an high drain cell and you’re ready.

I have built this version several times for my friends and they just love it, it smokes any other flashlight this size, including the expensive ones.

In answer to your suggestion , let me loudly state that I’m mechanically challenged-(I can’t build sh) and the only thing

that I could really and smartly bypass , would be the build attempt by me ! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m torn between 2, which throws best?

Convoy c8 xpl hi or xintd v5 xpg2?

If both are in stock form, my bet goes to XP-L HI. Simply because the XP-G version is not being driven as hard.

I hate to be a wet blanket here, but I gotta testify that entry-level C8 DIY may well be dead.

I just built one of these in black, from parts, then ordered a bespoke one for Proof. The Convoy body is carved better, and anodized a pretty pewter gray; but in the darkness, I can’t tell enough difference to make mine any better. Not even worth the DIY thread I’d planned. For a whopping $2.00 USD more for the Convoy, I won’t be building any more.

DIY-ing a hot rod C8, another story. If I DIY another, maybe even in this now-redundant “Ultrafire” host, it will be with an XPL HI and a ~6A, single mode driver. I’m not convinced the body would dissipate the heat of much more ILED than that.

But if you want a really nice, bespoke XM-L2, Nanjg-105d, 2.8A C8, for $17.75, I can tell you I really like mine a lot. I added the OP reflector, which would probably fit the XPL HI perfectly BTW, but the as-built one isn’t that bad.

Tom E built a RocherAS31.for me and with a dd /fet and a xml2-u4 with pushing 1700 lumens,

Do you have any pics of this light performing ?
