Manker E11 14500 battery width

Hi All,

My E11 came in the post this morning, a light I’ve been really looking forward to receiving. I’ve been loving it so far.

I’ve have 2 Keepower 14500s, which are the only 14500 batteries I have, and they have a width of 14.38mm. This is surprisingly such tight fit that they cannot be used without getting stuck in the body of the E11 – I actually have no idea why this is.

A normal NiMH is a good third of an mm less and fits without issue. Does anyone know of any 14500s which would be able to fit the E11? I’m getting around 14.77mm chamber diameter on the E11.

EDIT: It seems that over the metal strip that connects the protection driver to the terminal adds some width. I’m now getting 14.55mm. Additionally, the inside measurement on my caliper is not entirely accurate so the 14.77mm seems like it is most probably less. Another quirk – the battery slips in backwards without much issue, but if put in forwards it gets stuck. I have no idea what is going on.

2nd EDIT: Ah, silly me, I figured it out. You can take apart the light into three parts and just push out the battery that way. But, none of this matters as the E11 only takes unprotected 14500s, hah! I’d like to modify my question and ask if anyone can suggest a good unprotected 14500 for the E11.

My E11 not run with 14500 nitecore, 14500 Olight, 14500 KLARUS and 14500 JetBeam….what are thinking the Manker people when design this?, why is not 2 or 3mm longer the body? Facepalm

(With high quality NiMH is a great light)

Thank you, Luisgcan. I forgot to update my thread to say I bought these exact batteries for £1.50 literally the same day, and they came at the weekend and work in both my Manker E11 and Jetbeam-1 MK (another light the Keepowers weren’t working in). You can see my UK and US link to them here here http://budgetlightforum.com/comment/969684#comment-969684. Asides from the E11s battery incompatibilities, this really is a seriously cracking light and now my top AA light.

EDIT:

I can’t see information for this low voltage protection or cutoff anywhere online or in the manual. I’m going to test the light to see if it does indicate or cut off. It shouldn’t take me long to post results.

Hi Trevi_lux. I update my post above as I posted the link to a Rambler and not E11. I’m unfortunately unable to find info on voltage protection/cutoff, but I’ll test to see if there is any. It shouldn’t take me long. Might be a good idea to ask Manker directly also.

Are you unable to get more 14500s where you live?

The protection PCB is a standard configuration for the rechargeable batteries, to protect them from over charge, over discharge, over current, short circuit, etc., which will increase the dimensions of the final battery pack, for the required welding tabs, extra heat shrink tubing, and also the PCB itself.I believe the reason for the battery compartment not 2 or 3mm longer than the light body is to ensure good contact between the battery and light system during the long life time.

Ahh I see, so it’s out of choice. Thought I’d ask to see if I could be of assistance Smile

I’ll update the thread later on with my using an unprotected 14500 in the E11.

Test done.

At round 3.0V the E11 stepped down to Moonlight mode and remains on in this mode. The battery is currently at 2.79V and still in Moonlight mode. I’m guessing the E11 will remain in Moonlight mode and completely drain the battery, but I’m unwilling to test this.

Here’s my makeshift setup, as the E11 gets real hot when running in High Big Smile

Yes, it does. I got 1 lumen under 2.8 volt.
Edit: sorry, I saw now you got your answer by yourself.

Here are all my reviews on BLF

No under voltage protection….Unability to use protected cells….What looked like a good deal looks more like something to pass now ….
