UPDATE: Unfortunately schoolwork and family commitments have had to take priority this fall (to the point that I completely forgot about the Oct 31st deadline for the contest) and I have not had the time to finish this build. It currently exists only as a set of schematics and parts :person_facepalming: Perhaps next year!
I may be a brand new member but I think I’m going to jump in and join this
I don’t have many parts yet but I figured I’d go ahead and share the concept. I want to do something fun and a bit silly: a “lightsaber” thrower that is also a lightsaber. In other words, the plan is to build a very throwy flashlight that looks like a lightsaber, but also accepts a polycarbonate blade with a color filter to turn it into an actual (well, as actual as is possible in this world) lightsaber.
I’m aiming to use lots of brass, copper, and this:
Since I do woodworking, I always have wood scraps around so I’d like to include some wood in this build. Will probably be going for a “gentleman’s lightsaber” sort of feel…or maybe an antiqued, rustic one. I’m not sure yet.
I think the concept is relatively simple, but the devil is in the details. I’m hoping to also build a sound circuit, and it’s been years since I’ve really done much in the way of electronics work. It’ll probably be a while before I get started on this because of other obligations, but I figured I might as well go ahead and start the build thread. Looking forward to it!
Thanks for joining in FPC. Our builds will have something in common. Well maybe if I can carve a bit of wood without turning it into a piece of firewood. :person_facepalming:
