Lostheplot's machine made entry complete 1/10/16

Thought i’d have a go (machine made)

plan is to build a dual emitter ,4 x 26350 cell light,
it will be a basic aluminum jobby with 2 xhp35’s
mtn max 4amp driver
reflectors 36 x28 http://www.kaidomain.com/p/S021791.36mm-D-x-28_6mm-H-SMO-Aluminum-Reflector-1-pc

26.7

a bit of prep cleaned the lathe.its a Chinese job I think they retail as grizzly in the states…

assembled the quality control committee

ordered the components from mtn

so I got a little time today and bought this little chunk of ally all I could get localy

seems I needed only half of it dwarfs the lathe even had to fit the reverse jaws
3.8.16
a bit of progress

been roughing the round into a square

so we now have a basically rectangle piece
have marked out the front for the reflector recesses

10/8/16
machined holes for reflectors and leds still have to recess front plate for glass lenses.

set up for machining pocket for driver and battery tube
I’m doing all this before the parts arrive I hope there advertised measurement’s are accurate
a bit more progress machined a thread in the rear

and added some grooves
I then refitted the 3 jaw made a arbor and spun the head the other way it was surprisingly true

continued adding grooves
18.8
got homefrom work and decided it was still a bit bulky so I gave it a trim

also reflectors arrived they are 36 x 28

more tomorrow
this old patcher I believe was my great grandfathers from the early 1900’s used to be a boot maker
its a singer 29k 13.

I also scrounged some leather from my dad,
and knocked up a sleeve for the handle

I may make a scabbard when I’m done out of the larger piece its about 4mm thick…
found some time today to start on the tail cap

my knurling is definitely not up to the standard of others i’m going to blame the $15 ebay tool…

ran a few grooves to match the head they are 6mm apart

bit of live action.

done 1 of the internal threads
the tail cap components

offered the tail cap up to the remaining member of the qc committee and she wasn’t interested at all
another botched up thread due to photobucket
finished product

ASSEMBELY

Here we go

and with the sleeve

1 metre from wall

70 m to shed

20 m to tank

a long way to the moon

all photo;s taken with Samsung s5
.
tail cap reading 3.4 a which probably equates to Richards advertised 4a at led
no idea on the lumens but I guess around 3000.with a nice mix of throw and spill

30/9
well I believe there was a bit of a challenge in post 31

so grooves were added to the flat sides may help with cooling ?

pictured with the conyoy l6

I believe the output is similar to the l6
will get a comparison beam shot later

thanks for reading

DNF roped you into this, eh?

Good luck with the build

He did suggest it.and i wasnt going to
But since he is building a light from a old mallee root l
I reconsidered

Its good to see you here ltp. No I did not twist anyone’s arm, ltp is here on his own accord.

I thought you & Ron persuaded him?

I’d send the sacked assistants for a holiday to his house to give him a hand but they would get eaten by his much bigger puppies and stood on by a bunch of horses.
I’m not sure where Ron is at the moment. Maybe I’ll catch up with him later.

a bit of prep work done today
ordered parts from mtn
will hope fully start next week
as have been called to work tomorrow

That quality control committee looks like a pack of real dogs to me.

a bit of a change of plans reflectors now are 36 x 28.6 instead of x6 one’s
decided not to wreck the 2 hosts that gearbest delivered within a week (new record)

Thats going to be one big light.

Hello!

Of course it’s all a matter of personal preference, but I (and maybe MRsDNF too) would swap that Q.C. committee with a slightly neater one, like this:

Cheers

Barkuti, where’s your build thread? Aren’t you going to join the fun this year? Seems you already started a committee…

as tempting as it looks .I may be better off with the crew I have .as they have no chance of reading my aldi calipers.
and are easily bribed with treats.

Wouldn’t do you or I any good anyway. :frowning:

so what’s the difference?

:person_facepalming:

after a few hours I’ve turned the round into a rectangle

I have no idea what your doing but that’s nothing unusual around here. Lotsa work there on the little lathe.

You have the cutest quality control committee i have ever seen!
