Fake s5 charger.

I ordered 2 new s5 actives off eBay both my wife and i were over due for good working phones. They were new factory unlocked.
When they came in there was a red flag. The bottom of my battery had the foil peeled up slightly. My wife also said that the writing on these batteries looks like the fake s3 batteries she got off eBay last year.
Well they did not hold a charge very well, so we went back on ebay…… yep… again. and ordered 2 new in box original s5 active batteries. They came in, and looked slightly different than the ones that came with the phones. These new ones hold a much better charge.
Well today I was reading some horror stories on USB chargers, so I looked at the charger that was supplied with my phone. (I had been using my old one luckily.) I feel very strongly this is counterfeit.

I messaged the eBay seller we bought the phones from asking where charger and battery are from because I have concerns.
He responded saying charger is made in china, and the battery is made in Korea, assembled in china or Vietnam. He asked me if I am having issues with either one. I have not yet replied.

Shouldn’t it say Ul not vl as well?

Input 100- 40V

It is fake, which I believe confirms the phone is refurbished by 3rd party and not new.
Or the phone could be a fake/clone.

This article is not for the active but the regular S5. It may be useful though.

You got sold some fine fakes there… *notice the BAD Chinglish: ” Rink of lectronic shock” even the French spelling is wrong… ” Fabrique en china”

The word “adapteur” doesn’t even exist in French, it’s “adaptateur” :person_facepalming:

How much did you pay?

If it are refurbished phones these actually can work just fine.
Smart move not to use the adaotateurs  or batteries though.

On a side note from the moment cells phones became normal and less expensive ( I think around 1997) my wife (then mere girlfriend) and me try to use ours for 2 years and every year one of us got a new one.
Lol still remember my first Motorola I could take out the battery and stick 4 AA primaries in there so handy!)
Advantage of this is that we always have a phone with latest tech. Now our kids joined the mix and he has the mist advanced phone
We did start to use the same brand at a certain moment (Nokia) to be able to use the chargers but that was no longer needed when micro USB became the norm (we went for Android since I so much liked the actual keyboards (oh man that T-Mobile G1 with it full five row qwerty keyboard with keys placed just as a normal keyboard, sigh how I would like to have one of those with a modern Android, it did all faster then I phones to much frustration of iPhone adepts lol)

They were expensive listed as new $234 each.

It was listed as brand new. I specifically avoided the ” new other” listings and went with this one that had the headset charger and cable.

Right I understand you purchased it listed as new. But no way a new item can come with a fake charger. Which make the legitimacy of the entire phone suspect. If you checked out the article I linked, one of the most telling things is if the phone box had the proper label sealing the 2 halves together. Clones look pretty darn good these days.

You were misled and tricked IMO. The question now is how far the lie goes. How could it be limited to fake charger? You should download Samsung Kies to your pc and plug your phone in. It will tell you if the phone itself is a clone. Obviously it’s not a new factory package if the charger is fake. Something more than just the charger is fishy.

Looks like my cable was not a true original. And I dont know if headphones are they are in baggy still.
My camera flash does not have silver lining. But I have the active model so I am unsure if it should.
My charger is NOT 3.0 it’s a normal micro…… that site says 3.0. And shows pic that looks different than micro. But it is active. I don’t know what I should say to seller. I feel I may have been bamboozled.

I know battery and charger are fishy. Cable looks fishy to when I looked at fakes online. Mine did NOT have a seal with sticker

I would call Samsung and provide serial and IMEI to determine if phone is authentic.

So it appears that if Donald Trump becomes your next president, he plans to shut down commerce trade with China, (to put manufacturing sales back in America) meaning it may get difficult to get this crap into the US, (but also block good products from being sold in the US too)

I may end up calling Samsung.
He emailed.me back thanking me for for bringing it to his attention. He said he will ask his supplier what could have happened.
He offered to send me an authentic cable and authentic charger from Samsung.
But that does not adress that this was sold as new, and may be a refurbished unit, and it does not fix the fact that I was tricked with a potentially dangerous charger cable, battery, and who knows what else.
How many people were sent chargers that input 100-40 volts, are VL listed, and may pose a rink of lectronic shock……that is scary and not correct. Ebay is very strict on counterfeit products with company names.
I don’t want to seem like a jerk. But is that charher and cable that he offered to send me the one that was pulled from a phone? Someone put those fakes in mine. It was not Samsung!

My nephew in France bought an S5 recently and had Russian on it. No idea if it’s legit or not

I don’t think you would seem like a jerk in any way. The seller is the jerk who KNOWS their items are not new. They could not be confused. Only Samsung Authorized Resellers would have access to new units.

I would also be concerned whether the phone had any legitimate manufacturer warranty considering the questionable source of it.

I bought 2 S4’s last year from a phone store. They claimed they were Factory Refurbished but came in boxes by a carrier Page Plus and I was told they only had a 30 day warranty. I knew then they were not “factory” refurbished, but refurbed by a 3rd party. Samsung refurbished phones come with a 1yr warranty.
Sure enough one of them had an issue with 2 weeks. The seller gave me another one but when I only returned the phone he wanted the accessories also (charger&cable). Told him I wasn’t going back home for that, he could just keep the ones from the new box he was giving me. He didn’t like that. When I got home and checked sure enough one of the phones had a legit charger and cable and one set of them was fake.

This sort of thing is getting all too common in the 3rd party seller market.

I notice Samsung website sells refurb phones, but ONLY Note 4’s and S6’s.
And they come with 1yr warranty and cost much more then the ones sold on ebay.

You should certainly have a good paypal claim here.
