Defective Opus BT-C3100 v2.2?

So i got this bad boy from Gearbest 2 weeks or so ago and i noticed this weird behavior of slot 3 even on the first use but since the battery in there was very heavily used and abused NCR B i thought that the battery is faulty, but it turns out not, battery still charges fine in all other slots, slot 3 on the charger charges very slow, ultra slow like it is stuck on 200mA setting even tho is selected 1000mA.

So after discharging 30Q to about 2.9V Ive put the battery in slot 3 and set the charging current at 1A and let it charge over night, this is what greeted me in the morning

Looks like it counted the discharge and the charge. Try running a straight discharge, take the cell out and put it back in, and run charge mode. I think I’ve seen that happen before running the discharge refresh mode. Or maybe it was the quick test mode, I forget.

It was straight forward charge cycle, started from 2.93V, i discharged the battery in a flashlight on purpose just for the test, so the mAh displayed on the screen are only from the charge cycle.

If we take that the theoretical capacity of the battery is 3000mAh and that it took 6:23hrs to charge the battery from empty that equals on about 500mA charging current even tho 1A is selected, and it goes worse with lower currents, 500mA setting on slot 3 would take twice as long to charge a battery from 3.7V to full compared to the other slots.

Hope it’s not too late to get a replacement. Might be kind of difficult to get a Gearbest CS rep to understand there is a problem.

I’ll try, i think it comes with 1 year warranty so i think im good… If i manage to convince the GB staff that this is not normal. I hope that they will not tell me that there is possibility my 30Q to be 5780mAh since they sell ultrafire “5000”mAh 18650’s

It will also be difficult to tell them there is no such thing as a 5000mAh 18650 cell. lol

“dear we have Ultrafire, you like?”

Just confirmed what i said, slot 3 is charging at half of the selected current, not cool bro.

I bought an Opus BT-C3100 v2.2 from GearBest that developed a bad left bay after a few months-

I opened a ticket, and they were very cooperative, offered me a discount return shipping rate ($16) for an even exchange, or 50% of the original price I paid put in my GearBest Wallet + equivalent points-

So I opted for the 50% + points, kept the Opus with the bad left bay, and bought a Liitokala Engineer 500 for $24+change-

Okay, there is an update to the situation, after a few messages with gearbest they told me to check R52 and R56 and see if they are bridged together, i opened the charger and nope, they looked okay on first glance but after a further inspection it seemed like R56 was not soldered very good, it was siting at an angle and one of the solder points on the resistor was barely touching any solder, so i fired up my soldering iron and fixed that, now it seems like the charger is working as it should, Ive put 2 Efest 26650 that were used in my L6 since day 1 in slot 1 and 3 and set them to charge at 1A, it seems like both are charging at same rate.

Ill call this success only because it is China product that we are speaking of, i don’t actually approve this kind of DIY solutions when it comes for a item that is under warranty but i cant afford to send endless messages with them explaining why this is not a proper solution for my defective charger.

I think it is AMAZING that CS knew enough to ask you to check R52 and R56.
I also think it is amazing that both you AND GearBest got off so easy on this one. Problem solved.

That’s great, glad you got it fixed! But I think them knowing what to look for suggests this might be a problem with the whole batch of chargers. Or you got in touch with an actual engineer, which is unlikely.
Most important thing is you got support in just couple of days. Last time I had to contact seller (ordered phone on Ali), it took 5 days and dozen of messages with annotated pictures to communicate I needed an invoice for customs.

Yeah, gearbest staff was looking forward to help in any way they could, they actually contacted the manufacturer and that is what they told em, they even included a picture with the resistors.

Also they offered me partial refund or to resend me another charger even tho i said that the charger is working fine now, just because of the inconvenience i had with the charger.

Mine has the same problem, the left bay is only charging at about 30-50 mah. Just received it Saturday and it was defective upon arrival. Should I try to open it up and fix it or just exchange for a new one?
