Hello everyone :)

First to introduce myself, I'm Mario from Zagreb, Croatia.

This is my first topic here and I'm new to this flashlight thing but really interested. I have been reading forum for some time and just apsorbing information until now, but now I would like do some small mods to my cheap flashlights.

Some time ago I bought Ultrafire C8 with XM-L T6 (not sure which, but CW color) and I would like to change some things.

First, I would like to have more light (actually more throw) and CW color.

Second, I would like change 3-mode driver to 1-mode. Now it has High, Low, Strobe. I only want High mode.

Looking through the forum I came to conclusion I can use this:

For more throw and no hassles, buy an XP-L HI, it has a little more output than XM-L2 and it’s factory dedomed.

The driver and AR lens are ok for what you want to obtain.

I just put a Cree XP-G2 S4 2B on Noctigon 20MM MCPCB in mine. I can clearly see out to 216 yards (verified by rangefinder).

I’m glad to know I’m not the only crazy person from ex-YU here (haven’t seen anyone else).

This looks like a nice start. you won’t go wrong with any of this, since I take it you are not planning high power mod. Those drivers are widely used and proven in Simon’s (Convoy owner) lights, and host probably doesn’t deserve anything better. I personaly wouldn’t want light with single 2.8A mode, you are limiting yourself to just outdoors use. But if you have others, nothing wrong with it. Good luck!

intl-outdoor.com I think will ship, it’s the noctigon maker AFAIK, really good copper MCPCB for when you will increase power to the led :slight_smile:

I was just looking for someone who is near :slight_smile:
No high power mod (for now).
I need this one only for outdoor use and have other cheap lights with flood for indoor/outdoor and grat little OTR M3 for EDC :slight_smile:

Ate you sure about one mode?
With memory a light can be used as if one mode but in the situation a lower modes is more suitable it can be handy to be able to half press to that.

Sure about one mode for this one. I have another C8 to mode later and i may put some multimode driver (seen ones with many modes and programmable)

I need it to light the hill behind my house sometimes at night, and it is always sitting on the window.
And I can always change driver if I want to :slight_smile:

I was looking for one more C8 host to make similar light for my dad but with OP and NW LED and found some cheap $5 C8 lights on ebay.
Is it any good to buy that and replace LED and driver?

Not concerned about finish/anodising that much…more interested in metal quality, is it any good?

Go for the Convoy .
I had 2 cheap hosts and ended up changing almost everything .

AR glass , Reflector (it had cheap plastic that i changed for Convoy’s) , pill (from kaidomain) and the switch .

On 10 dollars total the only reason to do it would be if you want to use custom reflector , so you need to adjust the pill height .

The point is I want to change everything and have some fun doing it.
Buying finished light takes fun out of it :wink:

Get a Convoy host .

Then try a dedomed emitter … Xm-l2 u3 / u4 or xp-g2 s2/s3/s4 (old production) and a nice fet driver in there . Also AR glass is a must .

With a high drain battery of course and a good xp-g2 emitter (old) you will enjoy it :wink:

Edit : If you want to try OP reflector maybe a dedomed xml2 or xpl hi will be ok as far as throw isn’t no.1 priority.

Will try with OP and XPL HI, throw is less important, more flood desirable if possible for that one.

You cant change sloppy threads, bad oring grooves and ill fitting hollow pills which all cheap C8 lights come standard with…
