Convoy C8 from Simon: XM-L2 vs XP-L HI

Convoy C8 XM-L2
Convoy C8 XP-L HI

Both are using new version hosts, and the difference, as I understand, is only in the emitter. Anyone has both of them and can describe the difference in practice?

The XPL hi has a tighter beam that throws further.
For me with a normal inspection range of 100 meter the XML2 is used.
But my XPL hi also has the FET Bistro driver and the XML2 NW has the default Convoy driver.
so I have no idea how two stock drivers compare with only a different led.

I’d go XP-L HI. As it is essentially a de-domed LED. This means a smaller tighter hotspot, which is more intense and a more stark transition to the spill beam.

This will result in much more throw, but with about the same lumen output. If you require a more floody light for shorter distance use, then the XM-L2 will be better, but if that’s the case, then a smaller light such as a Convoy M1 or M2 might be a better bet anyway.

Thanks, guys. I already have M1 and love it. So XP-L HI will make more sense. What about reflector? Smooth or orange peel? Smooth will give more throw as I understand it, but orange peel will create a more even and smooth beam, right? I don’t have any real use for any of the flashlights, just buying them as toys, basically. So, which one do you suppose I will enjoy more?

Go for SMO. It will throw better and look like it throws better. I’d maybe go for OP if you again you wanted it more floods with a regular XP-L or XM-L2.

BLF in a nutshell
