What pocket light throws better than my P12GT XP-L HI ?

Must fit in my front pocket next to my wallet.
No zoomies
must cost less than $150
any 26650 tube lights take advantage of the larger diameter to make a more throwy reflector?

Those P12’s have great quality reflectors so to get more throw you indeed need to go for a bigger reflector (or a smaller led, but I guess you do not want to loose lumens).

A budget light that is compact and has great throw for the size is the Eagle Eye X6 with XP-L Hi led. http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_252532.html

Or a less budget compact light could be the Nitecore P20.

Eagletac TX25C2 with XPL HI and a FET +1 Driver

I’m not familiar with the light you site in the op. But I agree the X6 lights are very nice. I have a number of them. The Kronos X6 (think it’s sold as an Astrolix these days) has an XP-L HI and throws very very well.

I would say, I actually find them slightly too big for EDC carry in a jeans (trouser/pants) pocket though. The head is just a tad too chunky. I do carry one in a jacket pocket however, but this means they don’t get carried during the summer months as I rarely need a jacket.

At the end of the day, throw will be from as big and deep a reflector as you can comfortable carry. Matched with either an XP-L HI for max throw and lumens or a de-domed XP-G2 if it’s just throw and lower lumens. A de-domed XP-G2 should give you the most beam distance.

Mated to either a FET driver or something capable of delivering 4-6 amps running on at least an 18650 or multiple li-ion.

P12GT * 25700 cd*

I’m not sure what kind of performance you get out of your P12GT, but it looks like it’s a standard tube light with a XP-L HI emitter with a decent output for the size.

At times, I carry a full-size Convoy S2, with a 3A Qlite and a (domed) XP-G2 emitter using the deep/smooth reflector. With this combo, I get a defined hotspot and surprising throw from such a small light. Throw could possibly be improved further by the use of a dedomed XP-G2, assuming you get a good emitter and clean dome removal. Also, a FET-driver would improve output further.

Another option might be to use a narrow-angle TIR in an S2 for a tighter beam.

I find larger headed lights to be unsuitable for pocket carry, but what about the Manker T01 or X5? I don’t have either of these lights, but my OL-Edition X5 is on my way now. You would lose runtime as these are 14500-based lights, so I’m not sure if that will meet your requirements.

Depending on your pockets, if you could find a Smooth reflector for a Jax Mini C8, that might be a good option: Build and review of Jax Mini C8

For your budget, you could get a couple of Convoy hosts and a box of emitters, drivers, and optics, and start modding until you find a combination you are happy with… :sunglasses:

Check out a Eagletac P25 XP-L HI http://www.eagletac.com/html/p25lc2/specs.html. BLF member DB Custom reviewed the Nitecore and got 22.25Kcd. I have both Eagletac/Nitecore… the Eagletac is smaller, more powerful and has a tighter hot spot.

http://flashlight.nitecore.com/product/mh20gt

Claims to have 42 meters more throw than the P12GT….slightly bigger head.

I have a Convoy S4 with a Qlite and a XP-G2. It’s quite nice, but I think my S2 with XP-L HI and A6 driver out throws it still.

X5 is awesome, but runtimes are tiny by comparison. I still wish Astrolux would make an X5 head on an 18650 body tube. It would be an ideal EDC IMO.

For size to throw ratio your Nitecore P12GT is pretty hard to beat.
You will have to look at somewhat larger lights to get more throw, like Olight m23 or Nitecore MH25GT.

If you want to keep the head size the same, you need an LED with a higher luminance to get more throw. For example, a dedomed XPG2 S4 2B (old production style) paired with a smooth S2 reflector will get you 40Kcd, nearly double what the P12GT does. Of course, this will give you a smaller hotspot and fewer lumens, so it is a tradeoff.

Not so… the Eagtac P25 XP-L HI beats the Nitecore P12 XP-L HI, and IMO it’s not even close. Eagtac is smaller more pocket friendly with more power and throw.

No one has mentioned nitecore mh20gt yet. Should fit the bill

Yeah they did, check out post #8. :+1:

Where is this model sold? Can’t find anything like that on Eagtac site. Are you talking about custom mod? I don’t think OP was asking about possible mods…

I think your info is totally wrong Stevedog, recheck it. The OP is asking about Nitecore P12GT XP-L HI.
The P25 comes up short according to the numbers I see.

The Nitecore PT12GT is a great light. I happen to have both Eagtac & Nitecore.

Though their makers publish similar lux numbers, I for one can tell you either Nitecore is overstating their lux or Eagtac is understating theirs.
BLF member reviewed the Nitecore PT12GT Review: Nitecore P12GT from Banggood *Pic Heavy*, and he measured 22.25 Kcd not the Nitecore published 25+Kcd. Visually comparing their beams the Eagtac has a tighter hotspot (more throw) and is brighter, published lumen numbers… Nitecore 1000lm, Eagtac 1160lm.

The Eagtac beats the Nitecore… hands down. More throw and brighter in a smaller more pocketable package.
BTW I got the Eagtac from Illuminationgear, and I have this one http://www.eagletac.com/html/gx30a3d/specs.html incoming.

The Jaxman M8 Aka C8 Mini has a bit larger head but can do 65kcd modded with a FET driver. Stock is 35kcd with the 2.8A driver.

As for tube lights there aren’t many options, the P12GT has a excellent reflector. Maybe the new SMO S2+ reflector can get close but no one has tried it yet.

if you don’t mind larger diameter, check new Acebeam EC60
2000lm
throw 603 meters
beam intensity 90800cd
5000mAh 26650

Surely the S2+ will never throw as well as the S2 does though.
