Samsung Note 7 Battery

I found an update on their problem.

Uh, oh.

A verified replacement Note 7 just overheated and smoked — on a plane — fortunately before takeoff.

Samsung will be suffering prolonged ramifications from this problem; thank you for an update.

This one is a big problem for Samsung, they’ve managed to do damage control getting friendly news sources to insinuate the other high profile cases (like the Jeep Fire and the Chinese guy who had his Mac Pro damaged) are either fake claims or in the Chinese phone case that it might be a fake phone (without any proof it was).

Here they have a case of a verified “safe” replacement direct from AT&T catching fire while switched off and in front of a 100 witnesses.

There’s no way to spin themselves out of this story.

Thanks for the video clip!

Interested to see how Samsung spins this story. And now the airlines have another thing to add to the list to make lithium ion battery shipping even stricter

Note 7? Is that one of those brickslabs you'd better not to carry it in your jeans' pockets?

Do you have a backpack to carry it? :-)

Cheers ^:)

Not just Airlines, mail carriers as well, according to the latest report today.

The smartphone industry needs to regulate themselves and spend as much time on safety as they do on other features of their products.

What good would their smartphone be if you cannot fly or use public transportation with them.

We are talking one phone here, not an entire industry. I haven’t heard of any problems with any other manufacturer’s smart-phones including Samsung’s other models of phones or tablets.

edit… I guess I spoke too soon. Here’s a few iPhone explosions

and the new iPhone 7

With the iPhone 7, it looks like the shipper (USPS?) damaged it, and it exploded inside the shipping box.

Yep, abusing a lithium battery as happened with that iPhone 7 is a sure fire to make it burn…

From the photos I saw it looked like something pierced through the box and the phone.

What surprises me is the Postal Service still delivered it…lol

“…Samsung’s quarterly earnings forecast on Friday will provide an initial glimpse of the recall impact.”

Not really wanting to sound overly critical here but, this is the race to the stupid cigarette paper thin, humongous smartphone slabs. “Thin” means to me less robustness, and less battery capacity. And let's hope I can still purchase a by today's standards “compact” device with a mere 5" screen in a not so distant future.

I've recently interviewed my pockets, and they certainly don't complain about device thickness even if my smarphone reachs up to 11mm in this category. Now, with regards to lenght and width…

My ¢2.

Cheers ^:)

Sometimes UPS guys don’t think too well

Actually, it’s probably fair to say all the delivery companies have drivers who don’t think too well at times…

I worked as an U.S.P.S. Regular Mail Carrier in ’66-’67, and it is not a part of UPS. Some of us did and do think.

I think you slightly misunderstood me, the iPhone parcel was delivered by UPS, not the USPS, and I had hoped I was being clear in saying all the companies have drivers who don’t think at times (not that all the drivers don’t think) ;).

This was the state of the parcel UPS delivered:

My USPS carrier is a great guy, and has become a good friend. Goes above and beyond. Been lucky that way with all my USPS carriers. Our carrier in Virginia for 15 years was awesome. Every Christmas I would leave a note in the mailbox to come to the door. My Wife and I would buy her a bouquet of flowers to take home.

+1

Thank you.

I dont like the ideology of shaving 1-3mm from thickness and getting reduced battery cap & runtime as a tradeoff.

Phones are slim enough.
But for my pockets 5,5”–6” is too large.
