convoy c8

I am new to the forum so better say hi.I bought a convoy c8 flashlight last year but decided to take it apart and the led moved and now doesn’t work at all.is there a place I could buy a new led and make it go further distance.i bought a cree xml t6 but it doesn’t seem as bright as my c8 was,any help would be appreciated.p.s.i am new to torches so I am not to clever with them.i wish I left it alone.

Welcome to BLF!
Good quality foundation you got there.
you are having way too many options from here on

Where do you live?

sorry I am from south wales uk. does 1300 lumens go more distance than a 1000 lumens.

That depends on the specific light and emitter combo…

So, I assume your original emitter was a XM-L2? The Convoy C8 should use a 20mm board; to replace that, you will just need a new emitter.

I like a Cool White tint in my throwers. This isn’t the brightest option, but it’s a good cool white emitter that should be the easiest drop-in fit for your light (also, cheap, and with free shipping):

You can pick a warmer tint if you prefer. If you want to try to improve the throw, you could use an XP-L HI, but that may require a bit more work getting the centering and focus just right.

You could also use an XP-G2 if you wish, to make a smaller hotspot, but with a bit better throw than the original XM-L2.

Lots of options available! If you are able to reflow emitters, you could use a Copper Direct-Thermal-Path board, and a FET driver to get maximum output. Or, use a High-CRI emitter, or… (the options go on and on…) :crown:

Convoy has its own shop on AliExpress
You can buy the gaskets to make a XPl (hi) fit there (narrower beam further throw)
Changing the XML2 NW with a XPL Hi and orange peel reflector gave me a sweet beam on a Convoy C8, the stock reflector throws further but I like how the OP one treats the hotspot.

I don’t know which gaskets I need but would they centre the led.

thanks for all the replies but I don’t know nothing about torches and led sorry for all the questions.

What is a dedomed led and would that throw further. Which is the best out of them all. Thanks.

Dedomed LED is one that has it's dome, or the tiny half-spherical lens, removed. You can cut the dome off or dissolve it or remove it in other ways, it makes the light more focused. XP-L HI is an example of an LED that has the dome removed from the factory, which is why people recommend it for lights that are intended for range. It will have more range than XM-L2.

which is the best to buy and what do I need altogether.there is so many led to choose from.

In my post above, I listed what is most likely, the most similar drop-in replacement for your particular light, from a budget-friendly dealer who should have free shipping to your area. If you aren’t familiar with modding, and the other steps, I’d suggest just buying the simple XM-L2 on 20mm PCB I recommended, and soldering that in place of your failed LED.

That will be the simplest swapout option for you.

thanks for the help guys.cant I just buy one that will drop straight in.

Do you mean a full pre-built pill assembly with a new driver and emitter pre-installed so you can just swap that with no soldering required?

soldering the 2 wires to the led wouldn’t be a problem if that is all it is. I am thinking of just buying another c8 with the xpl hi led already in it,but do I get 1a or 3a.i wanted the led because I already have the host and don’t want to waste it.but on the bottom of the old board there is 4 chips and a spring.

Sounds like a good 8x 7135 (four of those chips on the bottom, another four on the top) for about 2.8-3A… So yeah, if you are sure that the issue is a bad emitter, just buy a replacement and swap it out.

So 1A vs. 3A - Are you talking about driver current or emitter tint? For a C8/XP-L HI, go with the Three Amp driver.

For tint bins, check out this chart showing what the different codes mean:

1A is a cooler white (my personal preference) which is a bit brighter than warmer tints, but less natural. Tint choice is your personal preference.

it was in your link it says v2 1a

Welcome Bouncer!

So your Convoy C8 stopped working for some yet unknown reason.
Pictures usually say more than a thousand words.
What exactly was it that ‘moved’?
Did the dome tear off?

Yeah +1 on this

(You don’t have a cheap light around to practice on?)
