I’m thinking about picking up an XTAR VP2 to charge 18650 and LFP123 cells. The 18650’s are used in a first gen Klaus XT-11 and Convoy C8 with an XM-L2 T6 being driven @ 3a on high. The LFP123’s will be used with my new Elzetta Bravo. Will this charger fit my needs or is there something better?
I have the VC2, it just arrived a few days ago... I am lovingit. The price was great and I get all the information I need and do not have to worry about forgetting ti constantly... Should have bought this long ago.
It’s a sickness I think we all share here. I’m pretty sure some of you have a much larger collection of chargers than I do. BTW, two of the chargers shown, the PowerEx C9000, and the La Crosse BC-9009 only do NiCd/NiMh batteries. Not shown in the picture are my 3 Panasonic BQ-CC17 Eneloop chargers that came with Eneloops I bought from Costco. I also had 2 Xtar VP1’s that I ended up giving to two of my friends just getting into the hobby.
Trust me, you will love that charger! Just make sure you select the right voltage for the cell you are charging. As far as current, 1 Amp for 18650’s and 26650’s, 500 milliamps for 14500, 16340, and 18350’s, and 250 milliamps for 10440’s
I have been through the opus C3100, Lii-500, skyrc mc3000, but none of these feature packed chargers can rival the VP2 when it domes to simply charging or battery volt check.
As long as you’re ok with 1A charge rate the VP2 might be the best charger you’ll find.
I’m still waiting for Xtar to release a 2A version of the VP2 then I won’t need to buy any other charger ever. But instead they’re more focused into making chargers for the dumb consumer with useless functions like battery % and “universal” battery compatibility.
I have a VP2. I got it because it has the 0.25A setting so I can charge my 10440 cells properly. I also like that it has the ability to set the charging voltage, even though I don’t yet use that feature. Works great for me.
In short, sometimes less is more, and for drop-and-forget charging the VP2 is my favorite. I do use the MC3000 but only for cycling batteries, no longer for charging in fear that I set the wrong parameters/mode and it takes 10+ clicks to go through everything.
And Gauss, I would answer your question, but I guess it was probably rhetoric and I’m sure you know a lot more than me when it comes to chargers.
I really need to learn more about properly charging batteries. I’ve only used Eneloop AA’s with an Eneloop charger and a cheap Eagletac 2-bay charger with a pair of Eagletac labeled protected 18650’s.
