Dale, yes, -25 without the windchill figured in. We’ve had colder in years past. I’ve seen it below -30.
My brother had a good idea, throw a bunch of water into the air to see if I could make snow. I bet I could if I put the water into an agricultural sprayer. But enough of that; now it’s back to our regular scheduled programming.
I heard at -25 like we have been seeing, if you boil water, the steam will turn to snow
Sorry, I know this is off topic… but it is for science.
I wonder what the temp’ was for that.
There’s got to be a way to do it. Heck, the ski areas do it. But they use compressed air to both make fine droplets and chill the water. Maybe for us, out of a paint spray gun. I’m just brain storming since I don’t have a spray gun.
goshdogit, yes aluminum sucks the heat right out of anything hot when it’s cold out. Even with gloves I don’t like to handle the aluminum feed scoop to refill the poultry feeders.
Just played around with the moonlight settings and can report that:
Level 1: no light detected even in complete darkness
Level 2: only barely lights up all 4 dies (one is visibly dimmer than the others), similar to level 1 with my Q8
Level 3: which is the default, is a usable low moon light and probably what I will leave it at
goshdogit I love that sticker! I’m gonna blame you if I end up getting a vinyl cutter
Jason, I think my order was a pallet filler since I was possibly the first to pay who wanted cells from the USA. Or they didn’t include the cells. Both are possibilities.
Tuesday will tell the tale. I hope it’s the first and not the latter. I absolutely hate trying to make things right but I have cells for myself, but this light and cells is for my brother and I’ll wait for the 2nd light.
Edit: Pulsar, tracking tells me that mine was forwarded to “me” a day or so ago. I just think they didn’t get it through a scanner yet. Heck, even if they take secondary roads it doesn’t take all of that time to get to the DHL building in Augusta. I think they gave the folks who work there the holiday weekend off. :) The Augusta “hub” isn’t much. It’s just a hole in the wall and not much else. Maybe one van to handle the “load”. I bet they don’t have more than a handful of employees at best up here; I suspect far fewer employees. I’ve been there and there is no answer when one pushes the door bell during business hours. :) Welcome to Maine.
I have no idea why the text above is struck out. That was not my intention but an artifact of the software.
It’ll all work out in time, I have no doubt.
Def not the first to pay who wanted cells in the US. You are in the 50s on the payment list and im 18. I am pretty sure there are people before me who wanted cells.
So you either were lucky or didn’t get cells. Either way. I hope it gets there soon and safely for you.
UPDATES: It appears that the first couple of shipments are going out by region instead of the exact order in which we paid for cost reasons. Initial quality has been fantastic.
The first shipment of lights (168 total) shipped on Dec 23. This was a pallet going to the USA from the first 576th person on the paid list that did not include batteries. Tracking numbers went out on Dec 27 and lights started arriving to customers on Dec 29th.
There should be a European order going out in January.
The next group to purchase lights (#1000 and up on the list) will get their emails mid January instead of early January in order to let Neal get caught up with current orders.
I got 2 GT’s Friday, but was out of town till today. Fired up both GT’s and caught this smoker before it smoked my reflector up!
It only happened in Turbo, so I removed the head and let it run on Turbo a few cycles, and it seems to have cleared up. I guess this is the one I’m modding!

That’s scarey! Happy you caught it. Did you just happen to be looking or were you specifically looking for this?
What did you use to get the head off and how difficult was it?
Looking up a few posts, there appeared to be flux residue on the wire solder points.

Yeah, it’s a little wet under the centering ring plate and top of the MCPCB that has a pretty good scratch across it.
Maybe let Lumintop know to clean it up a little bit…
Later I’ll reflow a XHP35HD E4-1A I de-domed I’m running the other E4-1A in a TN42 and it’s got a really nice neutral white spot, not orangey-yellow like the stock HI.

Yep I always look for this problem, I had a few K70’s and I run in the de-domed XHP35HD’s just in case. Just put the head in a vise with plastic jaws, locked onto the flats, and just twisted the head off by hand.
It was coming from around the base of the LED. Obviously flux from the re-flow,It plumed up pretty good for a while, it would have surely smoked up the reflector!

I saw flux residue back from first factory picture of driver and DTP boards, but thought they will clean up..
Ok some alcohol on cotton stick will do the job before first run..
Thanks for sharing Kawi

With all the GT's getting lit up, the spring thaw could come early for you folks in the colder climates
>>>Searching for a specific flashlight? <<<
It’s cold where I am, and the GT really draws the heat from my hands.
I managed to slip a length of bicycle inner tube onto the body of my GT.
The 20 × 2.35 tube is a very tight fit, but I’m pleased with the result. I used a heat gun to soften the tube as I wrangled it on.
I’ll be showing off the GT at a party tonight, and decided to use the vinyl cutter to embellish the front end a bit.

is the strobe full throttle on this light ?
How long would you need to shine it into someones face untill there is permanent damage?
How many minutes till the room fills with the smell of fried chicken?
Maybe you should write “Don’t look at the beam with remaining eye”
Here's a Neoprene cover that should do the trick for the cold climates.
I ordered two sets
