Almost spotless mirror finished, very small machning lines
The GT makes the L6 look like a baby
Crappy beamshot with cellphone
At first, i put in some 30Q’s and fired it up. To be honest i was a little disappointed, i thought is that everything?
Then i took it out in the field, and man, i got a huge grin on my face
According google the trees are 400 m from this point, the pic is very poor, but it lit up the trees like it was nothing!
!! Not the best quality photo but on the left my GT got it today with registered. On the right my dads GT that he got with DHL couple of weeks ago(beamshot about 3 meters away from wall) Reflectors are pretty different if checked by eye. Mine has got a smaller hotspot. When shining further away the difference is less noticable.
My GT, on the right, has a bigger and less intense hotspot. The reflector of my son’s GT is better, more mirrorlike, as mine is more OP.
So I got a nice little delivery today as well which was a huge surprise as I wasn’t expecting anything till into March sometime instead of the 11 days total!
Minor damage to the bottom of the package
well it made it threw the outside box to the GT’s box….
Everything looks perfect. Batteries are charging up so hopefully I can play a little before I have to go to bed. Thank you so much to everyone who was involved in anyway with this project. After a very crappy last couple of weeks (work, etc) this has brought a massive smile to my face! So glad I have a week of holidays after tomorrow!!
Fun experiment with the GT: try blocking the beam with your hand… you can’t get the hotspot to disappear!
It looks like the beam goes THROUGH your hand.

Is the light on the right at a brighter level making the hot spot look larger on camera?
Can you try this picture at a much lower brightness level like moonlight?
Anything above moonlight my camera makes the hotspot appear bigger.
At 9 feet, I get a hotspot diameter of 8” or 20.5 cm roughly.
My corona is also much smaller.

Here’s a tip for removing the bezel. Loosen the upper head from the light engine section first, this takes pressure off the o-ring on the glass and makes the bezel much easier to turn due to less friction.
Why didn’t I think of that sooner. Duh.

I spent a lot of time doing that and other neat tricks for the first couple of days after I received mine. Another neat trick is to go out on a completely (as possible) dark night and ramp the power as low as possible (not talking about accessing moon just the bottom level of the ramp). Then try to see how far you can detect light. It’s absolutely insane how far this reflector will throw that small amount of light output. This is a very special flashlight and I am so happy that I joined the blf for these and so many other awesome opportunities to see just what is possible. To be able to get advanced and intuitive designed flashlights at a budget price is just icing on the cake imho.
TA I commend you and all the other collaborators on this project. All of you do a great job of proving that “budget” most certainly does not mean CHEAP!
IMHO, This light is the most amazing light i have ever touched. You can call me anything you want, cause I got 2. The only thing that is better is the great light head condom and carry bag that Neal got together. Thank You to the team! There is a round of golf claps to Neal for the fine accessories!

SamHaLeKe – you have the “final product” in your hand, noob.
Do you think 850 prototypes got sent out?
And you wonder why you receive rude votes from time to time
No, I wonder why people take offence to a few words. How is ‘noob’ offensive? It literally means ‘newbie’.
Come on fella, that’s just an absolutely ridiculous thing to be offended by. Should I have called him something worse instead, to warrant the 2 rude marks I got?
It astounds me sometimes how offended people get over literally nothing – and things that aren’t even directed at them. But so be it. If ‘noob’ is offensive, I’d better quit calling people ‘newbie’ sheesh
I doubt it was the use of the word noob.
In my opinion, you come off sounding disrespectful or arrogant like your superior to everyone else. Even your post above sounds kinda rude. I’m not a good judge of tone, but maybe you sound aggressive or that you want to fight?
I don’t know exactly what it is. Maybe based on the words you use and the things you say, your triggering people? IDK.
On a friendly forum like BLF were we try to be helpful and nice, any type of negative attitude stands out.
Maybe someone else can explain it better?

Interesting, have you taken any lux readings side by side with fresh cells in each?

I dont have any lux measuring equiment.. but by looking just with the eye you can see a pretty big difference. When looking at both reflectors you can see the ring marks in both but apart from that mine is pretty clear, my dads light is less mirror like. It almost functions like a very ligt OP that makes the hotspot just a little bit wider. I will try to make some more beamshots also on moonlight.

If the reflectors so much different, they can not be good focussed for each reflector.
For my GT, I think its not well focussed, the beam is getting thicker and thicker.
I compared my GT with my Astrolux MF02 and it seems that the GT is not realy brighter than the MF02, but the hotspot is smaller than the MF02 (which is not good focussed too). But you have to remember, that I have a faulty LED: http://budgetlightforum.com/comment/1283157#comment-1283157
You could try adding a couple pieces of paper under the black centering thing. See if that makes it better or worse. (this moves the reflector away from the emitter)
If better, add a couple more pieces of paper.
If worse, then you might have to sand down the bottom of the black piece to make it a tiny bit thinner. (this moves the reflector closer to the emitter)

I measured the picture with a ruler I got a big 29% difference.
Could you make a measurement of the hotspots? You wrote 3 meters from wall. JasonWW wrote 20,5cm at 9 feet (2,74 meters).

…
Would paper be a wise choice of material?
I just think about high temperatures and paper….
You may not have a Molotowflashlight afterwards, but maybe the paper could char and disintegrate?

I’m just guessing. Paper should be good enough for testing purposes. Another material might be better for a permanent spacer.

Its less in reall life i guess, the photo makes one spot brighter.
What i also tried is put them on moon light mode and walk towards the wall i will see a square(the led) with mine GT, the other GT there is never really a square it always kinda stays a cirlcle. Maybe other people can try this and tell what they see(or picture)

It’s btw in no way any criticism. Both light throw extremly well. Just slight difference in beam profile, but with so much variables its expected that there are some.

I’m going to measure throw of my GT and Nicolaas’ GT somewhere next week, it seems that you and/or your dad are also in or near Amsterdam?, we could make it a 4x GT session then if you are interested.

Too bad i don’t live near Amsterdam, otherwise i’d join
I would be very intrerested to find out what exactly is causing the difference – and how big the difference is on Djozz’ light meter…….
Provided good whether we could go outside (we have a nice beamshot area at a 5 min drive) and compare our GT’s to some other lights,
like my TN42 and modded Nitecore TM36 Light (dedomed XP G2 S2 with 849Kcd).

The difference in Corona diameter might point towards different LED-position (focus) as a more likely reason instead of just reflector finish.
Seems like focus, not reflector.
http://atvillustrated.com/files/logo.2013.yamaha.racing.blue_.jpg
and what could be done here, to fix the focus?
p.s.:
according to tracking, my GT seems to have reached my country yesterday.
Now hopefully I will not have to wait much longer….
