Quick and dirty review of the new Olight H1 Nova NW!!! Beamshot added.

Let me get the business out of the way first. This light was provide by OlightStore.com for my consideration and review.

Olight H1 Nova

Ok Guys and Gals, if you like a good headlight… this is one of the good ones!

It is official, Olight got the H1 Nova right! I was provided the new light in my requested neutral white. It really is NW and is an awesome tint! Just a little rose in the beam, maybe 3 bin tint! Just not sure, I do not have many 3 bin lights to compare with it.

Not much change to the UI from any of the recent Batons. Notable exception, when locked out the light will turn on in moonlight only as long as the power button is pressed. Press for more than about 2 seconds and it will unlock.

It definitely will crank out around 500 lumens and it has a good moonlight with well spaced modes in between. The TIR on this unit is set up to flood and it does it very well with a great even beam.

I comes in a great little carry case, with a pocket clip as well. I like the idea of a clip, could be clipped on a shirt or jeans pocket while in use. It also includes a good strong tail magnet as well.

I will get beamshots up when time allows. I will also work on some beauty shots as time allows. I know that there are folks looking at this new addition and I wanted to get the info out while there is still time to order gifts for the Christmas Season.

But for now… This thing is a serious winner!!! Great job Olight!

Very complete kit, the carry case is an awesome addition!

Not much bigger than the battery.

Looks to be useful with it’s clip. The only drawback, it will not be good for use on a cap. The clip must be removed to use the light in it’s headband.

Comparison to a couple of my EDC light, Convoy S2+ (18350), Olight H1 Nova, Olight S1 Baton Brass.

Beamshot of the H1 Nova and a couple of modded Olights.

Thanks for taking time to look.

Can you use S1r’s tailcap & Magnetic Charging Cable on H1 Nova? Will this turn H1 into H1R?

Just tested it… with the battery and tailcap from the S1R you can charge in light! Now I have to find another tailcap!

Thanks for the review Matt. I have been eyeing this light.

Would you mind a run down of the UI for US (me) that has never had a Baton

@chadvone, I will try to get that up tonight.

I found a link to there manual…

Can you confirm a double click to turbo and another double click to return to mode before turbo?

Ok… the UI.

From off, 1 normal click gets the last used mode… except turbo. Turbo is not memorized.
From off, a long click will get one into moonlight.
From on, hold the button to cycle through the various brightness modes.
From on, short click to turn light off.
From off, 2 clicks turns light on in turbo.
From off, 3 clicks takes you to the blinky modes. Hold button to select the mode you want.
From off, hold the button… moonlight will come on, continue to hold until light goes off and it is locked out. During lockout pressing the power button for less than 2 seconds will provide moonlight while the button is held. Hold the button for 2 seconds and moonlight will come on and lockout will be off.

This light does have memory. It will remember any mode from moonlight to high. Turbo will be memorized for 10 seconds.

I think I have it all covered….

Matt

Confirmed!

On mine, both moon and turbo are memorized. It even says in the manual that turbo is memorized for 10 minutes, after that it reverts to mid.

I only have SOS as the one blinky mode.

I heard “moonlight” was 2 lumens?

It is.

Yes, I stand corrected… I misread the paper. I thought it said 10 seconds for turbo memory… basically off and back on. It is 10 minutes. There are only 2 blinky modes, the first is SOS and I have had it in strobe but now I can’t get it to go back into strobe. I got it into strobe 2 times earlier tonight. Somehow it is hidden or it is not an intentional mode! When I was in strobe, a press and hold would take the light to SOS. Now I can only get into SOS???

And frankly, the more hidden any modes that blink are… the more happy I am. I do not like to accidentally get into those modes, have no use for them. I have an S2+ that has the H17f driver and a second mode group is programmed with the bike strobe, a high/low blink at about 1/3rd power. This is the mode the kids use when they are out walking, my only light with an intentional blinky mode!

I totally agree with you with the effective hiding of the blinkies. I can’t get to the strobe at all and the manual doesn’t even mention it.

All in all this is one great little light. It’s interesting how Olight chose 5000K as the neutral white option. The difference to the CW must be very small.
