Yes, I did place it unrealistically low right on the top of the coffee table.  That is why it looked so good bouncing of the ceiling and flowing down the walls.  Very sleuth of you to figure that out!  Bummer really as it would be quite difficult to re-create that effect.  Still going to play around with a few ideas to see if I can create that effect for her.

I have a “flowerpot” edison-base socket for a large-globe neon bulb (flower-shaped electrode with different-color phosphors), that I stuck in an LED “halogen” replacement spotlight. The WW bulb shines up at the ceiling, giving the whole room a nice WW glow. I’m sensitive to bright light point-sources in my peripheral vision, as it gives me “eyeaches”. I rarely use the overhead light in the room.

So yeah, get a pole-mount torchiere with such a bulb aimed up, and it’ll flood the ceiling with whatever light you choose, colored (haha) by the actual color of the ceiling, of course.

Something like these https://www.1000bulbs.com/category/led-par16-lights/ only mine’s shorter and stumpier.

Here’s a link to the Yuji high CRI LED store. Not cheap but from the technical info they seem to have the real deal.

If you go with just RGB your going to hate the white it produces. You’ll want to get RGB + warm white strips, or add an extra warm white strip next to the RGB strip, which probably wouldn’t be a terrible idea anyway to get some extra light.

I had a look at them before for the LED screw in bulbs, but with shipping they are seriously pricey and I   wonder if the high CRI is really worth the price.

Good idea really.  I have to see how to lay it all out and also that I don't get strips like I have in my PC that after a few months, only 50% of the LEDs work.  That would be such a pain to remove around the living room once I get it all set up.
