18650 Laptop batteries - what must I do with them

I’ve recently pulled 18 good condition 18650 batteries from laptop packs. All charging to 4.2v and settling to about 4.12v.
My question is what should I do with them now, what does everyone else use them for?
I only need 2 for a flashlight.

I think the most obvious answer is GET MORE FLASHLIGHTS!

get 4 plastic holders that can hold 4 each safely. Number them 1-4, and use in rotation. I have a habit of placing Pos to the right of charged cells in the holders and need charge with POS to the left in my 2 or 4-cell holders. But you need to get some holders to store them or carry them safely.

Do you have a charger capable of discharging and measuring the capacity of each in mAh? This will give you a better idea if they really are good.
Any cells that get too warm during charge are at the end of life and should get recycled.

There is a thread on here, I will try to find, that lists many cells pulled from laptops. You can ID what you have and get an idea of the rated capacity compared to what your discharge test shows. You may have good cells or cheap generic ones.

good identification information and other links in there to help you.

the problem is I see flashlights are moving to 26650’s now

I have a nitecore D4, so it doesn’t tell me the capacity. But i saw somewhere there is a formula for working it out. Just haven’t found the time to do it.

but it still doesn’t answer my question what should i do with them now , i don’t have many uses for them :stuck_out_tongue:

Wonder what others do with so many that they pull

You can still use them in a 26650 torch, you just need a sleave or even wrap the 18650 battery in electrical tape till it matches the diameter of a 26650 cell.

Wouldn’t worry to much 18650 torches will be around for a long time to come.

As for other uses, they work well in power banks for charging phones etc, also fit E cigs if you fancy taking up vaping

You can build a power bank with em

Definitely look into some other flashlights.
Empty power banks are available and you can get huge capacity on the cheap. Or just a single cell bank for under $2.

I have this one I filled and a few others. Love the ramping LED wall of light with 45 hour advertised run time. No longer available though.
