Head flashlight

I’m looking for light similar to this one: http://www.gearbest.com/headlights/pp_269773.html
Color doesn’t matter. Budget. I prefer rechargeable.

It’s a general light that doesn’t require a huge throw. You know for walking in the yard working in that basement without light. Stuff like that.
The other use is working under a car. That means a very wide flood angle because the distance from headlight ‘til car is often just half a feet.
For general use something that wide likely is to wide because it means an extreme angle of say 120 deg. So something zoomable would be great.

The light shown in the link has a battery pack located on the back. I think that’s great for balance. Unfortunately it’s bad for working under a car because it (likely) does feel comfortable laying on that battery pack with my head.

Bright is great until it starts to reflect. So a few settings would be a bonus.
To make the list of demands even more impossible, The light should be fairly flat because there is little room under a car.

http://www.gearbest.com/headlights/pp_261516.html
That one looks nice but I have no idea about quality.
It has the battery in front. A stepless dimmer (scroll down) of which I don’t know it wastes energy. Unfortunately no zoom.

An hints, BLF buddies? Smile

I’d also look at the new offerings from NiteCore in the rechargeable headlamp category.

Martin has a deal going on NU20’s and Freeme has one on NU30’s. Very light, bright and appear pretty flat.

People say I’m a flashaholic like it’s a bad thing…

Thanks for all the advise.
I bought the Boruit RJ – 02 on a Gearbest flash sale for $7.99.
When I first looked there where 10 in stock. During the day it went down to 6. So I decided to buy one.
This morning there are suddenly 8 in stock Smile

I’ve briefly considered the Nitecore suggested in this thread, but only 30 minutes on high was a real no-no for me. (don’t understand the great runtime difference for a few lumen extra)
That brings me to one of the big advantages of the Boruit RJ – 02, replaceable batteries. A few spares in my pocket and I ‘never’ run out.

Chargers: 1xBasen BD01 5/5, 1x Gyrfalcon All-88 4/5, LiitoKala: 3x100 3/5, 2x202 3/5, 1x402 3/5., MiBoxer C4-12 3/5.

A bit late, but my vote’s for the Boruit, too. Got like 4 of ‘em… not all for me. Big Smile

Standard 18650, usb rechargeable, and like you said, you can swap cells and get an instant “recharge”.

If you need a wider angle, stick some diffusing film on the lens.

Can’t beat the price…

18650 lights can deliver around 500 lumens for 3 hours from a 3400mAh battery

This headlight is very cheap, but it is bright enough to work under a car https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Mini-3-Modes-Waterproof-COB-LED-Flashlight-Outdoors-Headlight-Headlamp-Head-Light-Lamp-Torch-Lanterna-with/32763585171.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.0.NiXmPf
I have used it a couple of times to work on a bicycle in the dark.

You don’t need a led light with a reflector when working very close to the headlight, you don’t need a bright spot, you need a wide angle light, and for that a COB light works very well.
Even this very cheap one works very well, and if it breaks, just order another one (or buy a couple of these).
It also works very well on low selfdischarge nimh AAA cells.

The Boruit RJ-02 is highly regarded as a very good budget (under $10) lamp.
I have actually tested the light in your OP & it is truly horrible.
Cheap & nastily put together, horrible fake Latticebright emitter with a horrible angry blue tint of about 220 lumens as opposed to the claimed 600 Facepalm
I think you will be very surprised how good the Boruit is for the money Thumbs Up

@bella-headlight
So it’s over double the price and half the quality….

@Hobbyfotograaf
Hi zuiderbuur, for that price I would have ordered one, unfortunately “Sorry, this item is no longer available!”
I fully agree a bright spot isn’t needed for many jobs, I would say no bright spot is even better for a lot of things.
I’m not sure I agree with not reading a reflector. A reflector increases light output, and that’s a good thing. Please note that with a reflector I mean anything shiny. Not just a parabolic reflector.
I have a ceiling lamp that gives a certain light output. In the box was a shiny sticker I had to stick under the bulb. It noticeable increased output.
But for the price of that headlight not much can be expected.
BTW I like the ability to search on angle on AliExpress. I’m doubting between 60 and 180. (something between 90-120 would be ideal I think)

Thera are many COB led head lamps on aliexpress https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-cob-headlamp.html?spm=2114.010102...
The one i have is no longer available in that shop, but there are many other shops where you can still buy the same head lamp (even cheaper, 1,5 euro with free chipping, i payed 1,78 euro).

And there is some kind of reflector around the COB ledto get the light in the right direction.

I also have a Fenix head HP11 lamp, it is better built, and much brighter, but because of the narrow beam it is not very usefull as a worklight.
The much cheaper COB led head light is the better work light, but it won’t last as long as a Fenix light (but for that price i will replace it if it breaks, i can buy more than 20 of these cheap lights for the price of one Fenix).
