This was mentioned over in the 504b thread. Figured it should have its own to be easier to find. The reviews are fake, the beamshots are stolen and from other lights. Usual DD stuff. Could be a great deal if it is what it says. Manafont sells a 502b XML for around 15, so the price at $12.69 before coupon is not outrageous. Coupon THANKSGIVING cuts it down to $10.15 which is a tremendous deal.
I suspect this is made from some sort of factory rejected parts cobbled together, but you just never know with DD. I'm very tempted to pull the trigger on one, but after hearing about the Keygos KE5 situation, I'm a bit hesitant.
If you get one, or have some thoughts about it, post here.
Update: Even though I have ordered one and it has shipped, I would strongly discourage anyone from purchasing from DD due to the recent Trustfire Flames debacle. I'll post a small review when I get mine.
Update: Got mine today - 11/14/2011, 11 days after order. Its actually very nice and as advertised with an XML & SMO. Measured around 2.7A at the tailcap with an unprotected Trustfire from DD. About as bright as my Ultrafire X2, but it has a larger hotspot than the X2. 3 Mode with working memory - takes a few seconds for the memory to kick in. Well worth the ten bucks. As always with DD, YMMV.
It's going to be O.K for $10. don't expect much then you will not be disappointed. You may get one that pulls just 1.7Amps or one that goes Direct Drive and pulls 3Amps or over. Depends on the Internal resistance of your battery.
I have an ultrafire C8 that pulls 2.8 to 3Amps on a Trustfire Grey battery. When I use a Callies Panasonic or Sanyo 2600 I get over 5Amps and 4.3Apms respectively.
I agree. That's why I asked. As to how bad, it should at least be an xm-l as stated. Someone received an xr-e for the 504B. There was just R2 (xp-e) printed on the side.
The idea was I got burned on what seemed like a good deal. I also once purchased a $3 light from DD figuring "how bad can it be for $3". I wound up spending hours trying to get it to work(and if you consider my normal hourly wage of $27/hr, my labor cost was in the hundreds for a $3 light lol - why - cuz you know how we are :-) ) so I'm wary of too good to be true deals - especially from DD - they are extremely shady like many of the Chinese sellers.
Ya, the way I look at it is, if something is wrong with it, its a good chance you end up with a decent host, a decent xml on a board, or a half decent drop in or a combination those. For $10, heck, I think i'll take a stab at it.
Yeah, I thing you're right. I'll have a stab at it too. Trigger pulled. This poor flashlight, it hasn't left the warehouse yet and its already been stabbed and shot
NO ONE recieved a xre for a xml ...That never happened ... I love how rumors spread ..
The 504 B has on the side of the body the letters R2 ...in about the same place you'd expect the letters L2 ...big deal.. the emitter is obviously an xml.
I have a Solarforce L2 and it says it on the side of the host ...Should I be concerned that Solarforce sold me an xre-L2 emitter ? the 504b is rock solid i assume the 502 is just as good ..I just don't like the 502 as well as the 504 ..upside is a clip ...and the 504B's I got have NO nasty pwm.these are a deal
I actually have bought this exact flashlight off DD before. It is pretty much as described.
3 mode, hi, med, fast strobe. XML emitter with mode memory, though it takes a few seconds to activate. Workmanship is as standard Ultrafire 502b. Mine came with no lube on the tail cap so it's as dry as grinding bones. Also the XML in mine is not centered to the reflector. The drop in IS labeled as Ultrafire XM-L.
EDIT: The light emitted from this XML is COOL WHITE.
