Did anybody find a good centering gasket? The stock one is crap in my opinion. Or are there any trick center it succesfully? The Reflektor always off-centers on the last steps of tightening. Sad

No answers? I am planning to build another one of these. Got the first one right, but after a lot of adjusting. A tighter centering ring would help a lot.

$12.77 on eBay, at least for the next 27 minutes:

(Back to $20 now…)

Keepin’ the “B” in BLF

Centering gasket? Big Smile

Yes I really tried with it… Ordered from Simon to… But no matter what I tried it did not looked nice to my eyes.

The best you can do for yourself is that you don’t use it at all… This is product of eyeballing:

A bit uneven spill from side to side is product of drilling reflector base with accu drill but the most important thing is perfect hotspot with 300+ kcd

Looks kind a warm towards green? Yeah baby! Because it is good old XP-G2 S4 2B inside Thumbs Up

This is probably only reflector light beside Jacob A60 that I actually like.

Long live the Mitko!

Is there a copper pill that fits into this light?

Not that I know of. I have one unmodded at home, I can have a look at it.

If took the top rim of mine and added a large mcpcb, but the wires shorted.
So i want a copper or aluminium pill and use a smaller mcpcb with the wires more pretected.

Was measuring the throw on my D1s today (120kcd). I also tried my souponfire light (dedomed xml2-u4, Blf a6 driver, 24agw wires) and got 205kcd. Maybe could have got higher numbers with thicker wires, but I am still amazed by the potential of this budget light.

Hello,
could you advice, is better to use Manker 28mm MCPCB for a tight fit instead of Maxtoch 26mm MCPCB?

I’d go for the maxtoch.

Anyone know if these are still available anywhere? Looks like they are here:
http://www.shenzhen-wholesale.com/cree-l2-led-980lm-5-mode-flashlight-to...

But it doesn’t look easy to order. Guess I should I have ordered back when they were cheap and available. Facepalm

I think there is no better reflector thrower than this Mitko super thrower, but only modded versions so if you are not up to the task don’t order them… And especially under 15$… For maxtoch fans this modded light will easily out throw your super duper factory maxtoches with 2×18650 cells when properly modded… That does not mean it is better light of course. We could also mod Maxtoches Smile

Very encouraging results guys. Now I know I can expect around 330 from my mod.

But inconsistent production? LOL that should be really crazy adventure. But if it accepts UF T20 pill than there should not be any problem. Problem would be with inconsistent reflectors.

Edit this is fairly cheap and it should fit?

Keep in mind that Mitko uses original old S4 emmitters , you should probably expect 290-300kcd from it .

I also have good old G2 S3 2B(which should be even better than Mitko S4 1A, and only about 10% lower performance than S4 2B) so now when I saw Djozz result I think even 350 kcd should not be any problem and all that with just 4,5A current draw Smile

Nice results guys. Djozz managed to get through Thumbs Up

Nope m8. Got those in the cashe…do not fits. As i said t20 pill fits yet its designed for 16mm pcbs

Mitko I don’t understand this.

This what I will mention below is real T20 pill cause I’ve done couple of them with 20mm mcpcb’s so I really don’t understand how it don’t fits for you?

This is real T20 pill that I bought at fasttech and fitted to couple of T20 :
this is

So if T20 pill fits I really don’t get how this particular T20 pill won’t fit? Big Smile

Sorry to bring up this thread again, but did any of these replacement pills work with this light? I can’t decide whether to put in a 2mm white flat or sliced XHP50.2, then I thought if I could have multiple pills that would be great. Smile

Don’t know about the T20 pill (could check) but the problem is not solved by it: for the reflector to focus a flat led well, it has to be completely flat on the MCPCB, and the reflector base is really wide. A 32mm MCPCB solves this (barely, it still needs bevelling of the reflector base to clear the solder blobs if I remember well) but then the top of the pill must be flat.

My strategy for working with this reflector has been to use copper tape to make very low profile contact extensions then cover with a thin translucent insulation gasket I got from Mtnelectronics. The reflector sits directly on the thin gasket. This has worked to get good enough focus for sliced XHP70.2 and dedomed XPL. But for the 2mm WF I’m currently trying to get to work I will need to remove a bit of reflector material to get it to sit a bit lower. A larger MCPCB would of course help but I’m working with what I have for now.

Guys beside this Mitko’s thrower flashlight there is one real crazy, budget friendly, modding friendly light uniquefire HS 802 with this reflector:

So if we compare 2 of them one has wide reflector and other one has deep one. Throw same if not better on HS 802.

Throw only slightly depends on how deep the reflector is and almost entirely depends on the front diameter of the reflector. So the HS 802 will have no better throw than a C8.

But it sure is an interesting light, it will have a wider hotspot and narrower spill than a C8.

Yes it almost have no spill(good for hunters)only pure intense hotspot… While sidespill may certainly mess with our night vision; pupil of the eye narrows and we see less. The brighter the enviroment is, the narrower is the pupil of the eye, so there’s a reduction in light that hits the fundus. Hotspot type of a beam like aspheric or HS802 makes that we perceive throw further in the night. There is better contrast between illuminated area and dark area. The enhanced contrast lets us to perceive throw brighter, further and cleaner on target eliminating those reflective issues (especially reflection from barrel once when we have mounted light).

But different animal than C8… HS 802 imho throws better than C8, and has better pill and more modding friendly than Supwildfire.

So still available budget super thrower reflector flashlight hosts:
Supwildfire (Mitkos thrower)
HS802 Uniquefire
C8 global standard

I would of course change them all for quality aspheric light.

I have a TrustFire 168A, which has an even deeper reflector of 60.5mm

The SupwildFire has a rather shallow reflector.

But (as said) it’s apparently the frontal surface of the reflector that counts, so the Supwildfire will win, but i’m sure that at some point a reflector can be too shallow to collect a decent amount of light from the LED, but then again, that would cost reflector frontal surface area too.

I did not even knew for this Trustfire 168A host… Smile “Apparently?”

Apparently does not counts in my book. Only real world moding experiece with same driver, same emitter. These deep reflector lights seems like perfect choice for new osrams.

What I know is that recently modded HS 802(btw I always unfairly thought that this light is super cheap junk) for one of mine friend who wanted super throw and that 18650 last for longer time. So with XP-E2 dedomed(R5 i think but i am not sure, still have plenty of them lying around and since I worked for free looked like a reasonable choice), 2.1A driven Nanjg gave me incredible 200 kcd results on cheap UNI-T luxmeter which works better for me than much more expensive Tesy meter.

So according to that results(if they are correct) same light could give around 300 kcd with s42b dedomed fet driven and even more with osram white flat 1mm? Anyway it should give around 300 kcd. But visually should throw further than Supwildfire because that pure hotspot vs sidespill effect that messes with human vision.

Anyway I will order that Trustfire since it has even deeper reflector than Uniquefire and will see… It is bit dear price on ali but will try to find somewhere else.

Fasttech has them, i bought mine there at the time (2014).

https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10000665/1059704-trustfire-168a-t6-m...

$ 18.24

But you never know if they have old stock actually in stock.
Best if you contact them first to be sure.

Jerommel,

I have been researching on this deep reflector lights… I came to one video where I found that maybe HS 802 could be better choice.
There are several version of HS802 circling around and there is one crazy HS802…

Look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1iQhqKp8Oo

So this should be extra modding friendly experience: heat transfer directly from aluminum pill(al is better and lighter than brass imho) to reflector which is rarely seen in flashlight world and which should enable perfect centering of reflector without to much fiddling, centering, gluing etc.

So we need that better version of 802.

The problem is that several versions of HS802 are circling around. Probably “clone of a clone”. I modded old style where the brass pill is screwed into flashlight body and reflector was detachable it was not merged with pill like in mentioned tube video of 802.

That one in video is just crazy. When I saw that I instantly wanted to order but no idea where or how since now are CNY holidays.

But now I am in a hunt for that version of 802.

Oh, that’s nice with that pill + reflector drop in set up.

Must be impossible to know for sure which version you buy…

It seems you can tell by the grooves in the head, and also by the price..
Of course the one you want is more expensive LOL
