Hopefully you’re right, Teacher. Hopefully titanium grey is not in the eye of the beholder. We will, and again I should add hopefully, know all soon, when the samples are received. Anticipation.
Note that even the picture of the FW3A on the box under the light clearly shows both holes in the clip.
That said, I don’t much care either way. If I keep a clip on a light, it’s usually to serve as an anti-roll device. I never actually clip my lights to anything.
Okay, just realized the clip is painted black. I just thought it was some weird reflection maybe. Why on earth would you do that? It looks nasty.
As for the hole in the tip of the clip: It’s also there in the original renderings in the first post. Maybe they thought they are doing something good?
But why a black clip? I don’t get it. Isn’t that an extra step for them to produce too?
the clip … can it be removed? Will the light function without it?
Yes, it should work fine. At least, mine does.
As you mentioned, it’d be a good idea to put an O-ring in its place, because it’ll have a gap otherwise and that feels weird to hold. It shouldn’t affect function though. It’ll just roll easily.
I can’t figure out why Lumintop would be making so many of these boneheaded changes so late in the development. The changes to the clip are honestly just terrible looking and nonsensical. I also can’t figure out why there’s so many apologists bootlicking Lumintop in the thread.
The hole makes it more difficult to knock the light off your Levi pocket. It adds resistance. Personally, this light will be fantastic without regards to bunnies and black clips with holes. After all, we will be using it in the DARK! Should be fun.
I must be missing something. Because, the hole is even in the clip on the original renders.
Yep… but somewhere along the way the the hole disappeared. The link to this pic says “Proto 4” in it. IIRC it was the last one sent out b4 the pre-production ones just sent out.
And then on the picture posted today by M4D M4X the hole has “magically” reappeared. ('If' this is indeed a picture of the ones just sent out.)

Firefox uses hundreds of megabytes per tab? That’s a news to me. I have 213 open tabs at the moment, all in plain sight (3 rows). There are quite a few heavy web apps among them. I just explicitly reloaded them all and FF takes 5.5 GB now – or 25 MB per tab.

“Hopefully” is definitely the ‘key word’ cabfrank. I think/guess that is the best we can do at this point…… hope.
Time will tell…..

I think this new clip design is probably final.

That clip really looks bad ………. hope theres an alternative that ‘resembles’ the original

Maybe Lumintop will make an aftermarket clip with the older design, people can buy for a couple dollars and swap into their lights.
I can’t imagine why they would do that. Why not just keep the clip as it was if they were going to do that?
Oh yeah, now I remember.

Heck… after thinking more about the clip, I’m at the point where if it is…
———- I don’t like it, I’ll recolor it.
———- I don’t like it, I’ll redo it.
Might or might not do anything with that “bonus hole” in the clip they ‘apparently’ have blessed us with at no extra charge.
Of course this is all speculation at this point, only time will tell.
But…… I do have a plan.
Just hoping all other aspects of the FW3A “are a fit”.
If they are…. just make it happen LT.

Oh I’m still down for my two. I just might have to change it a little, depending on how it actually turns out in prod.

You asked 5 days ago. The last update on the list was 5 weeks ago.

If the clip isn’t stainless steel, it could be a conversion coating like black oxide or parkerizing.
Hi TK! I haven’t received a reply to the PM I sent you a couple days ago.
I have a triple MCPCB loaded with 219B sw45k R9080 emitters waiting to be mailed to everyone’s favorite BLF member.

Oops. I’m bad about PMs sometimes. I have 119 tabs open, all waiting for me to do something, and sometimes it takes me a while.

Off topic, but need to know info: which browser are you using? Firefox, Chrome, and Opera all seem to use several hundred MB of RAM per tab.
How many extensions do you have? They’ll each do work per tab. If on Chrome, look into The Great Suspender.

Not only that, but the clip in the original renders, and especially the next revision, look great. The latest version looks, well, garbage.
