Can the FW3A driver act as a drop-in or is there some fiddling necessary to get it to fit and work as intended? I really like that host.

I’m not sure what you’re asking here. The fw3a driver is designed specifically to only fit the fw3a type of light. The body of the fw3a is only designed to work with that one driver design. You’re not going to be able to install a different driver inside an fw3a host or be able to use the fw3a driver in a different host. Those parts are specifically designed to work together.

It’s referring to the below quoted post:

Anyone thinking of grabbing the CountyComm/Maratac version?

Shouldn’t be any issues there.

Yup, I indeed failed to quote the post by Kindle. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for clearing it up as well as the answers!

You could try contacting Lumintop or one of the vendors that sells the FW3A. Alternately, flashlightlens.com has amazing lenses in a variety of sizes.

Thank you for your answer! Checked flashlightlens.com, seems that they don’t have right size for FW3A, so the lumintop is the only option. I have sapphire glass from AliExpress, but it’s without ar coating.

Neal’s Gadgets has sapphire. Communication is terrible but has been okay if you are persistent and patient.

The post-launch changes have often been pretty disappointing. Even at launch though, the quality consistency wasn’t very high.

… and the derivatives have generally been even more disappointing. Like, the FW21 for example… appears to have been scaled up without modifying the proportions to be appropriate for the new battery type. So several parts of it are designed badly and make no sense. Mine can’t even turn on while using the battery it was designed for.

Would have been nice to go with a company which could maintain higher and more consistent quality, and put proper consideration into related products, even if it meant a higher price. By the time I joined the project though, it was already too late for that.

So I’m glad I have a few good FW3A lights and a FW1A, but it’s unlikely that I’ll ever get any more… and it’s not something I can recommend in 2020.

I bought one of the launch units from Nealsgadgets way back in April 2019. I use the light regularly and am still very happy with it.

I remember writing some initial feedback when I first got it but after all this time I forgot most of them. The color temp I had wanted was not available so I went with the warmer 7A. I see there is now a 219C 4000k which is perfect but it is $$$! I can’t remember what CRI the 7A is but I wish a 90+ was available at launch.

Bummer to hear I could not buy “the same” light any more… should have bought a second one as a backup!

So thanks again for all of your hard work.

Neal stops shipping in Russia a few years ago, and with drop shipping price of the glass will be incredibly high Sad

Saw that, hopefully they make it a single emitter not triple.

Thanks. Does not look like a good use of the 14500 form factor.

I bought my FW3A in November 2019 with SST20s and I EDCed it for a while but, believe or not, I put it away. I read something in a post that rekindled my interest and even ran a few tests. I was messing around with it in my 'box', after calibrating it, measured turbo, repeat turbo and max ramp.  It looked like this and I'm wondering what causes the pattern circled in red... specifically the half-way point of the peak.

Thank you!
