Review - Wuben TP10L - Quick summary, nice tool.

Alright… to kick this off this light was provided by Wuben for this review. However, I will as usual be honest in my opinions.

Purchase link for the TP10L. Cost for this unit is $29.99 via Amazon.

What I wanted to find in this light was a good blend between a comfortable writing instrument with the option of the ability to use is some early mornings up my sleeve as a defensive instrument. The added light is a bonus.

I find the pen very comfortable to hold and write with. I like heavy pens, while not as heavy as a brass or stainless pen… this one fits the bill. It uses a Schneider .4mm gel refill and writes very well, the roller ball is very smooth and the point is reasonably fine.

The pen has a reversible barrel, the other end has a very sharp pointed glass breaker / sharp pointed instrument tip. It would indeed sit in the palm of your hand well and extend far enough to use defensively. This is spec’d as tungsten, I tend to believe it as it scratches steel with no visible damage.

Ok… the part we have all been waiting for… The light!
This little light is powered by a tiny lithium ion battery. It uses a TIR optic that appears to be about 10mm’s in diameter with an XP-G2 led behind it. The beam is pretty much flawless. The light is also very white, I would guess it to be 5700k or there about. This light incorporates built in USB charging and the termination voltage on mine is pretty close to spot on at 4.21 volts. The tiny led will go from red to green upon charging completion. The battery is a Wuben branded 10180 70mHA cell. The light is a twisty that has enough tension to prevent accidental turn on in my pocket for a week or so. The first mode is 3 lumens and the second is 130 lumens. The numbers seem fairly accurate, but I have no way to measure them.

Beamshot at about 12’

Well… parts is parts, but these are very well machined! I do think that the 2 meter IPX8 rating might be accurate, however I did not try to drown this unit. It has o-rings at every threaded joint that seem to fit well.

I do have one serious complaint, this will result in a less that perfect review. The barrel is threaded on both ends and a cap was not provided! I have already ruined one shirt because I forgot to reverse the barrel! This refill will wick right out into cloth, so beware!

Final rating: 4.5 stars out of 5.

To wrap this up, what do I think of it over all?
Pros:
Very will built
Good pen refill
Good weight
Good, handy light

Cons:
Lack of cap!

Thanks Matt

Nice review…I’m wanting to get several of these as gifts.

Thanks DJ, I really do like it. It writes very well, the light is good but it killed my shirt when I forgot to reverse the barrel. It is a fine instrument!

What exactly do you mean by reversing the barrel?

To keep from inking your pocket, you will need to turn the barrel around to expose the breaker and cover the ink pen tip. Just a process that one must remember. Pics 2 and 4 show the different tips and the break down pic shows both ends.

Ah, now I get it! Thanks for the explanation!

Thanks for the review mate. Looking forward to getting one of these

How much does it cost and where do I order it?

Will update the original post. Forgot to add that.
