Shopping for new light

Hi everyone, long time no type (personal issues kept me away from lumen hunting), but now I’m back after 4+ years.

Sad to hear of Old-Lumens passing…I missed a lot while away. I read the post about the custom light with his name engraved on the base - very nice sentiment.

If I missed any other important changes, please forgive me.

And now to my issues. I have a Lumintop ED20 in NW tint which is my favorite light as it has 3 outputs and with the head tightened no annoying strobe, but it recently suffered damage and they don’t make it anymore so I can’t get a replacement. So I guess now I need a new light that will perform similar or better and reasonable size like the ED20 using an 18650x1 cell. I was thinking of going with the P60 format and get a Solarforce L2P, with the Intl-Outdoor P60 with XM-L2 3D neutral white in 3 mode (L/M/H), and maybe the AR coated glass lense for a bit more oomph. I know about wrapping the P60 for better heat transfer and I already have 18650 protected Panasonic-based batteries from the ED20.

My only concerns are:

1 - is the Solarforce L2P waterproof/water-resistant? I won’t be diving or swimming with it, but I often use these lights outdoors and require them to handle heavy rain and dunking at times.

2 - Intl-Outdoor.com seems to be up and running, but I’ve read some posts on Google that they may have had some issues - are they still good to place orders and ship to Canada? I’m looking for the P60 and lense from them (the L2P from Solarforcesales).

3 - I believe the P60 from Intl-Outdoor is current controlled? I need a light with constant light output.

4 - did I miss anything?

Welcome back bfksc. It may be worth having a look here.

Gotta be an L2P? Fin17 has a code for an L2M host from GearBest for like 10bux.

Empty P60 module (reflector+pill) from Fasttech, your choice of SMO or OP. Eg, https://www.fasttech.com/p/1208509 .

NANJG 105C driver, short the 3rd (I think) star for L/M/H. 4th star for L/H. Maybe 2nd and 3rd, forgot. Also FT.

Pick your choice of LED, but I like the XP-L in 3D (Cu board, also from FT), nice rosy neutral-white.

So aside from the host, everything else can be had from FT. One-stop shopping…

Or instead of an XP-L and XP-sized reflector-hole, go for an XM-L/-L2 and a reflector with an XM-sized hole.

Not what I’m looking for, but thanks for the info…

Doesn’t have to be that specific one, but whatever it is, it must have the features of the L2P like tactical switch, tail standing, 3 modes, etc. I’m also not interested in getting parts and assembling the drop in either. Part of the reason I’m leaning towards the L2P is the modular design - I can customize the host to fit what I want and replacement parts are easily available whereas other brands are all in one solutions but little option for customizing and replacement parts. They don’t make the Lumintop ED20 anymore so my favorite is now off the list. :frowning:

Have you looked at the Lumintop ED20-T?

…found this at AliExpress

ED20-T

I don’t know how it would compare…

Yup, first thing I noticed when I discovered the original was retired. But this newer version has things I don’t want - I don’t like the dual switch concept, blinky modes that can be activated in error, and just CW tint (I only buy Neutral White tints because I spend most of my flashlight time outdoors).

Hmm, okay, the L2M won’t tailstand with the protruding switch boot (one of its best features to me).

Good luck finding a P60 that meets your criteria, though. Maybe RMM can throw one together for you, but…

Also, most cheap P60s just use parallelled chip-resistors to limit current, not 7135s.

Sure but I have to have tail standing, not an option.

I did a lot of reading about the P60 from I-O/store and the P60’s they offer use QLite drivers with 8*7135 for 3.0a draw. Should be plenty bright with a neutral white emitter.

I decided to pull the trigger on the L2P and P60 combo. At $26 USD for host and P60 it’s actually one of cheapest lights I’ve bought…see if it does what I want. If not, it’ll become a backup light and I’ll keep looking.
