By knowing who marked you rude will only take the disagreement even further, and will also make people create new anonymous accounts just to mark rude. Not that it isn’t already happening now, but could get worse.
How many did this thread alone generate for ya Glenn?
Not sure how else to contribute to this thread…
Just kidding, wasn’t me.
Believe it or not, none.
This is logical IMHO, this is on topic talking aboit getting rides in almost any other thread is of topic, generally not positive so bound to get a rude click.
Btw I like the idea of giving a reason when marking something as rude. It makes it a bit harder to do, and gives a good opportunity to Learn if one gets one.

Not a bad idea. It hadn’t occurred to me, so I haven’t given much thought yet to the implications of it. But I do know that on a technical level it would be much harder for me to implement with the available tools and frameworks I have for this forum.

Hi there teacher. Not to come down on you publicly, but again, by participating in an off-the-rails thread that is spawning an argument and getting tempers riled, rules were broken, and rude points happened.
Hi Sb. No problem, I don’t feel as though you have come down on me at all.
It is no secret I am the person with 48 Rude votes, down from 53 I might add.
When I PM’d you about this (because I felt there was absolutely nothing rude in many of my posts that had received rude votes) you kindly responded with some directives. I replied that I would make a very conscious effort to comply with those directives. And I have.
Yes, I as well as others do not necessarily like the anonymous system, for reasons stated….. BUT, this is “your house” & you set the tone as well as rules.
That is good enough for me.

How about a system where the first, let’s say 4 rude registrations are invisible? This means “noise” will be filtered out to the member to avoid a negative experience. If a post is truly rude, it will most likely receive more than 5 rude registrations, and then it will become visible to the poster as a more genuine feedback. Just an idea…

Very good idea, thanks! Not sure yet how difficult that would be technically to implement.

Not always, because eventually a post will disappear if many different users mark it as rude. But it is theoretically possible for a lot of people to load the page at approximately the same time, see the rude post, and mark it as rude before it gets automatically removed.
Specifically, this rule is often forgotten …. when a user is being conflictive. This includes starting, engaging in, or otherwise responding to arguments….
Diagnosis: “are too!” “am not!” exchanged, over and over.
Last time I got a rude point, it was because I expressed an opinion.
I assume whoever dinged that comment did so instead of posting a public response.
For which self-control I thank whoever it was.
I looked and realized, yeah, I could have irritated someone.
It’s a good tool, working well, I think.

Appologies in advance SB… I am going to click on your Rude button in post #74 just to see if there is another page to confirm the submission.
Just curious if there is a chance of accidental submissions as the Rude is close to reply button.

Are you sure you want to mark this post as rude? Please ONLY use this for rude, lewd, or conflictive posts.
For all the discussion on the Rude button, SB’s stats show it does not get used often. With all the members here, only 4 have active points. I for one can’t remember the last time I clicked Rude. I think I used it a few times the week it was introduced, and not since. I like it, but don’t really use it. But before it was introduced I had a big need once.

Sure, go ahead. There is a confirmation page. But even so, there is always a certain amount of confused users (possibly lurkers) that don’t really know what they’re clicking on. It’s not a rampant problem or anything, but you should definitely take it with a grain of salt if you get a single hit out of the blue.
Suggestion for sb56637: maybe it would nice be to show the current top transgressor in a stylish way in the front page, with a nice trophy picture. Inspiring artwork:
Cheers

Please avoid fully quoting lenghty posts, namely with nested quotes. Trim quotes down to the essential. Helps with neatness and legibility. Thanks.

Exactly, with a pinpoint on a map with the transgressor’s address and phone number and IP address.
Some time ago I received a rude for a lesser swear word not addressed to anyone or any particular product. Maybe we should create a list of Kid-Appropriate “Curse” Words for Everyday BLF Use

I have a question for SB. This just started today. I can’t see votes or vote bars on any poll as long as I’m signed in on my 2 Macs, PC, Chromebox, and Chromebook with Firefox, Chrome, and Safari. If I’m signed out of any of them, I see the votes no problem. I’ve already deleted cookies, caches, etc to no avail. Am I being blocked for some reason?

wow, figured they would have been a couple spiteful ones.
I didn’t vote… just figure its one way to get SB’s attention to certain threads. He can decide from there.
Most other forums have a “Report to Mod” button, not Rude. IMO the counts should not at all be seen to the user.

Thanks, I will take your opinions into account. I’m not inclined to make any changes just yet, but that option isn’t necessarily off the table.

How rude Barkuti (I won’t mark it though.
