Portable Car Jump Starter and Battery Charger

Any opinions on what’s best? Right now I’m thinking about this Red Fuel @ Walmart for $34. Any other options out there? Anything better?

You guys know batteries so I trust you.

What kind of engine do you plan to use it on?

If you have a new battery, and/or figure out why your car needs a jumper, then you wouldn’t need to buy one of these.

I have been considering one of these although quality is always hard to judge

My problem is I have kids that turn lights on with enough regularity that these would be a good option

My car is fine. It’s mostly backup as I travel a lot and late at night.

I’m curious why these are so much more expensive than the walmart one. Even the similarly rated 400A version is 3x the price. I know people like to lie about ratings though.

You get what you pay for 95% of the time. Pretty rare to have something super cheap no-name brand having better components than from a reputable company. Walmart has a ice cooler that looks just like a Yeti, and is 1/3rd the price. Only problem is, it holds ice for a day and a half, and the Yeti holds ice for over a week. So if that lousy performance is worth the price difference to the purchaser, then it’s a good deal.

I bought 3 battery charger/maintainers (Schumacher) from Walmart for $29 each. A year later all three failed. Ended up buying the Deltran battery tenders for $45 each anyway. $90 wasted on the Walmart brand. I already had one Deltran BT plus for 15 years. I should have known better.

In general, car jump starter used on the car battery bad or the battery hasn’t enough power for your car.

It depends on your budget. $49.99 for Tattu portable Jump Starter will be a choice you should consider.
