Suggestions for decent less than 5 USD AA/14500 flashlights

I happend to purchase around 10 really good AA flashlights some years ago, but now I have donated them to friends and lost and have only one left.

So what I’m looking for as specs would be:
- Inexpensive, less than 5USD/each maybe even 4 or 3
- Works at least wit 1.5V AA battery (decently) 14500 is option (and probably brighter)
- Robust (no breaking parts)
- Preferably only 2 modes like low and high and off
- Small size, smaller the better
- Lumens mediocre so I don’t expect them to be killers

They are mainly used so that I throw AA battery in and then they lay down somewhere like pocket or car door pocket or so. My friend has used his so that its fully polished to aluminium even though it was originally black. Cheap so that if you drop that to Well or sewer or lost it it is not huge mistake or grief.

I tried to look but didn’t immediately found anything that I would have dared to order 10pcs. I think this could be helpfull for others also as to be used like with AA batteries on similar purposes and minding that with 14500 it probably could give even more output.

Do not buy these: https://www.banggood.com/Elfeland-3W-Portable-Mini-LED-Flashlight-Keychain-p-81669.html?rmmds=category
really cr@p with very low output

Of course one can take a swing at the SK68 lottery:

Be aware this is a real gamble: At some point I ordered two, at the same time, from the same vendor, arriving at the same time. 1 had terrible blue tinted light and only worked once. The other had nice neutral white tint and still works.

These are neat https://www.banggood.com/Meco-XPE-Q5-600-Lumen-7W-Zoomable-LED-Flashlight-For-1xAA-1_2V-p-907006.html?rmmds=category

Yes, I prefer these to Sipik SK-68 clones.

They're just on/off, and sometimes they go on sale.  ;)

This is the issue what I would like to try to avoid. I’ve noticed the same that the batches differ, but still would like to try it so that if someone has managed to recently get decent flashlight somewhere, then to order 10 of those or so.

The batch I purchased years ago was inexpensive and good quality, all of them and have not since managed to get similar good bargain.

1-mode is also good so maybe those SK68 would be good choices. If someone has recent good experiences somewhere I would cladly like to hear those also.

Hugsby XP-1 might fit the bill. It is only one mode though. I have bought a lot of 5 for around 20 USD including the shipping. If they are still being sold, I got mine on eBay from a seller called tomtop. I think they also may have their own website.

edit:
disregard, I forgot that these are AAA

I like this one. https://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_360839.html

Only one mode.

Will take AA or 14500

Edit: Just noticed that The Miller’s last suggestion is the same style and a bit cheaper (at least for the next 3 days). Thumbs Up

pp5858, I recently bought some of these cheap AA/14500 lights.

This one was influenced by mizou51 review. It has a front LED (High-Low) and a COB side light (High-“Blinky). Works well with AA (alkaline and Ni-MH) and 14500 batteries.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/800LM-Mini-Portable-LED-Flashlight-Torch-with-Clip-XPE-LED-COB-LED-Flashlight-4-Mode-Penlight/32821384547.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.FIM1×2

From the same seller I bought this zoomie 1 mode flashlight. The original tint was the “bluest” I’ve ever seen so I modded it and now it is a usable light with both types of batteries (although I use it mainly with 14500).
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Mini-Flashlight-2000lm-Waterproof-LED-Flashlight-1-Mode-Zoomable-LED-Torch-Penlight-By-AA-14500-Battery/32826991989.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.FIM1×2

Aside from those mentioned above in The Miller’s thread, the “cheap but decent” AA/14500 lights I’ve seen are a bit more expensive (5-8€) and have more modes, like Thorfire TG06/TG06S; Sofirn SF10 /SF12/ SP10A /SF14; Ultrafire C3 (1 mode only); Trustfire S-A2; or some “SecuryIng” flashlights (in AliExpress).

Easy…

http://www.microcenter.com/product/466497/R22_1W_LED_Flashlight

3bux a pop, on/off, side-clicky, my bobofett light (beat to Hell, looks like bobofett’s helmet) eats “dead” AAs that won’t even power my wireless optical mouse anymore. With new alkaleaks, it puts out some decent, albeit cool, light.

Runs off eneloops beautifully, so no need to chance alkaleaks ruining it if you’re not interested in wringing dry “dead” alkies.

Someone here actually took one apart (rather destructively!) just to see the wonderful little driver circuit-board. I like my lights whole, so I just looked at the pix. But it’s a nice little critter, and the price can’t be beat. I wouldn’t waste my time on SunSkyMoonBright 1000000lm lights for 4bux, because you know they’re gonna be crap. Me, I got a half-dozen of these lights (R22s, just like the Robinson) and have given away more as gifts. No complaints.

Bah, just saw now that you’re in Finland. The price is great, but shipping from the US will be obscene.

(Tarja rules!)

Although these are AAA, if someone has working link for this seller (tomtop) I would be interested. Didn’t find from Aliexpress nor ebay.

Before I posted this thread I ordered 3 of these for test, the review looked decent and everything is good on that flashlight if it just works. I have not received yet them, I will post my comments and measurements once I receive mine.

Great solo albums, too!

Check out her duets with Doro Pesch in “The Seer”, and Sharon den Adel in “Paradise”. Wow… Smile

Anyway… Big Smile

Doh! Forgot…

https://www.amazon.com/Inland-LED-Flashlight-Watt-Black/dp/B01G0M6TUG

7bux and free shipping from Amazon. Just goggle “inland r22” and see what pops up.

Otherwise, I’d just go for a Jetbeam Jet-I if on sale or with a discount coupon. It’s double the 5buk pricepoint, but…

Currently, our German Amazon has the Sofirn SF10 rather cheap in the “AIMAI Shop”:
https://www.amazon.de/s?merchant=A2CMSMX7FMGD9B&fallThrough=1
Btw. there were (are) also Hugsby models for one or two AA’s – search the forum for their names.
They are usually well made, although there might be cheaply made copies these days.

On this thread there was also a request for Hugsby XP-1. Back then I suggested the link below. There are lots of “fake” Hugsby XP-1 models out there, but this seems to be reliable original one. The price, however, is above 5€… Take a look!

Indeed, its a nice little light! The COB provides good “room” illumination and the front beam is not bat at all, despite being really CW! But I guess it worths the try being that cheap Cash

Think a 219B would go good with it.

Indeed, it would fit better one small light like this! The only thing I find “annoying” is the blinky part and that you have to go through all the modes again if you miss the one you want! Other that is a great AA light and the side COB (which at first wasn’t that interesting for me) is a good feature Wink
Putting a magnet on the pocket clip it will work as a work light too Wink

This may not be ideal, as you are in Europe and this is USA stock, but here is a link I found on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/5Pcs-Hugsby-LED-120LM-Clip-Penlight-Flashlight-9CM-XP-1-XPE-R3-US-STOCK-U5A1-/311891453997

Does anyone have decent place to buy 5 or so plain magnet clips for AA flashlights? That could be actually handy addition for this.

For 5$ you can not get good light.
Give 5$ more and check this models:

I don’t think you can get magnetic clips “per se”!
Those I made was a tip from David Sunshine (youtuber) and work pretty well depending on the light (weight, height…).

My suggestion? If the light doesn’t have a pocket clip, search for one that is appropriate to that. See if it fits!
These are some suggestions, only, and depend on the type of flashlight you have:
CLIPS
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/universal-clip-suitable-for-S2-...
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/flashlight-waist-clip-stainless...
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/7-sizes-LED-Flashlight-clip-Silver-Stainless-Steel-Flashlight-Belt-Clip-holder-clamp-Light-clip-for/1925442_32787117672.html?spm=2114.12010615.0.0.65c1c02DFDQM5

HEATSHRINK TUBE
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1-M-lot-2-1-Black-2mm-Diameter-L50-Heat-...

MAGNETS
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/10pcs-20mmx10mmx2mm-20×10×2-S...

Then put the magnet in the clip, wrap it in heatshrink tube, heat it to adjust the magnet, and…voilá! Grad

An example (no, not pretty, but functional Big Smile ) [In this one I used other round magnets I had back then]

All of these are “cliped” to the fridge Big Smile
