Looks to be 11mm for the actual switch button Jason. The SST-40 might require the holes in the reflector to be opened up, the XP-L2 is close in output and would fit without alteration.
Richard did have a 32mm MCPCB from Cutter that was triple XM footprint, that would work.
But remind me, what size boot do they use on the switch?
If I get one of these xpl versions I’d probably do a clear boot cover, custom color leds and maybe a TA driver with narsil.
I think I would like to use the SST40 leds on it, but I’m not sure how easy that would be. It would be nice if Mtn Elec could put them on one of his triple boards, but I don’t think he carries that led, yet.
Edit, I think he does carry the sst40, but maybe not a triple mcpcb that they fit on.
There was discussion on the SW cover in IMA4W review thread. Dimensions were listed. Stock cover is shallow, L6 fits but too high IMO. You can light under the stock SW cover, it is translucent. Review: Sofirn C8F XPL
TPad has an XM size board and Richard sells them. I can’t say it will work in the C8F reflector but it is the same LED circular footprint (Ledil Optic fitment) as the XP32 dale used. TPAD XM / XHP50 32mm Copper MCPCB
Right, TPad is a Cutter product. Whatever Richard has left in stock is probably the last T-Pad’s he will have. Then they will have to be ordered from Australia.
And while the emitters will center properly on the reflector openings the substrate is larger and may cause the need to open the emitter hole in the reflector.
Out of curiosity, will a Convoy C8 tail cap or the Sofirn tail cap with the switch fit this C8F?
I’d like to get this C8F, but I need to change a lot of stuff. I don’t like NW emitters, so I gotta change that. I’d like a tail switch so I can shut off all power. I’d like a clear side switch cover so I can do my custom color leds (which cause drain). I’d want to swap the driver to a TA version with NarsilM. I’d also like it to use a 26650, but I guess I can settle for an 18650. Idk, maybe I should just hold off on buying this light.

The original C8F tail cap fits and the switch works as a lockout, the Convoy C8 tail cap won’t thread on, the Sofirn has square threads. (My Convoy C8 is an older one with a threaded pill, using ryansoh’s copper pill)
Narsil, like the OEM driver, has lockout fwiw.
Yeah, sounds like you’d rather have the LuckySun F3X.
Yeah, sounds like you’d rather have the LuckySun F3X.
I meant I need mechanical lockout so I don’t run the battery down. I’d prefer a tail switch over having to turn the tail cap all the time. I might wear out the thread anodizing and then I’d be in trouble.
The Luckysun F3X looks nice, but I don’t think it has a side switch. You can’t have ramping without a side switch.
The SHADOW SL3 comes pretty close, but the head on it is pretty big at 64mm. I definitely prefer the smaller 45mm head on the C8.
I think I have enough info to make a good plan of attack with this C8F.
Thanks everyone.

My Convoy C8 tail cap fit, but didnt make contact, I had to use a copper washer.
You are right. but my light did turn on. Convoy has more threads on the tubes tail length.
Swapping Convoy tube and tail make contact in the C8F head. But a not liking the Convoy name on a Sofirn…
That is why I got the PB Sofirn, I want both e-switch and tail cap to cycle thru the modes and with the LD-2 driver I’m able to use both switches not just power on/ lock out, The reflector will go into the baked Convoy C8 and shit can the optic, never liked them any ways. I’ll just have to open up the emitter holes in the reflector.
The baked Convoy C8 is running 3 SST-40’s. I get what I want for $13.00, I spent more on a driver…
I finally got mine yesterday – The UI is nice, the light itself feels “right” – but the bezel was too small and another color (a bit darker) – but the Bezel that I had left over from my other non-side-switch C8F fits perfectly.
Regarding the old C8F… I modded mine with the FET+1 Driver from BG and 3 4000K 219C – this thing is brighter than the new one
Why?
Think you’re missing something Jason, the depth of fitment of the star in a normal single LED C8 is all about following the parabolic curve of the reflector in order to achieve throw. The reflector designates where the emitter sits, not the size of the MCPCB.
In a triple design, the reflector cups are by default narrower and shorter in height to fit the 3 reflectors into the C8 head, hence, a shallower depth for the MCPCB.
You could use standard C8 sized reflectors in a triple, call it a BTU Shocker, and carry on….

Yeah, that’s a bit ‘unfair’ to sofirn, in a way..
None the less, i ordered a Sofirn C8F host and a black Convoy C8 host along with it, just for swapping the tube and tail.
I like the C8 design, and i think the matching tailcap and classic batt. tube brings the design together.
Using simplicity that is redirected makes it also misleading.
The reflector, and the reflector alone, establishes the relationship of all other components. Design the proper reflector for the targeted LED, then build a light around it… do this properly and the result is guaranteed success.

Just a guess, but maybe the significantly lower Vf of the 219C is pulling enough current to outperform the XP-L2 in the new C8F.
My C8F has XP-L emitters. I doubt very seriously that a Nichia 219C would outperform an XP-L2, as I’ve seen the XP-L2 pull over 9A and make 2300 lumens.
I received the C8F yesterday. Almost forgot i ordered it! lol
Nice C8 triple indeed!
My rough ceiling bounce – lux meter test came out around 2.6-2.8k lumen on a freshly charged 30Q. If others did measurements i’d like to know if this is about right.
Now that someone mentioned it, my bezel is of a slightly darker shade then the head and body. Barely noticeable though. I also have a few stains on the head anodizing. Not sure they’ll go away.
Great output and beam for the size and price. It reminds me of my first SKR triple XML clone, but on a single 18650. It drains rather fast if going into high modes. I don’t like much the UI. Mode spacing could have been much better with a lower low and better spacing between the four brightness levels. Cycling through all the modes to go back to low is a pain. Maybe i’m missing some known shortcuts? This light calls for Narsil!
left New one, right 219C
The difference is not big, if there is one.
Well… from what i see on my laptop monitor, the 219 is not brighter. Maybe it’s a matter of camera post processing or white balance, but the left hot spot seems more washed out (brighter) then on the right. Overall the new one on the left looks brighter to me.
Jason seems to know me quite well!

Yeah, but getting a tail switch might be a problem. Maybe sofirn could sell me one seperate? I don’t know.
Richard is out of sst40, but when he gets more in maybe I could send him my mcpcb and he could reflow them.
Yeah, that sounds like a good plan.

Not a good plan…. your MCPCB is XP, SST40 is XM. You will need the TPad XM/XHP.
Digikey has the SST40 in stock.

And if you’re going to all that trouble, you may as well put three XHP-50.2’s in it and Zener modify an FET driver, use 2 Aspire 18350’s.
(my Ti X6 with 3 50.2’s is making 10,200 lumens off two of the Aspire cells, just sayin…)

That’s right. I’d need to see if Richard still has the XM triple boards that fit this reflector.
Even if I bought leds from digikey, I can’t reflow them. I’d need Richard to do it.

IMHO, don’t flashlights and guns usually go together anyhow? Along with knives, multitools, etc. lol.
Since a triple reflector is shallower than a single reflector, shouldn’t the triple C8 be shorter overall than the regular C8?
Also, if the Convoy C8 or Thorfire C8 tubes fit, I prefer also having a tailcap switch AND knurling on the tube. No smooth tubes for me.
I especially prefer the new Thorfire C8 tailcap with the two thumb cutouts.
