Imalent DX80 Gen2 - QC Issues?

Been out of luck with my recent flashlight purchases.
First came a MF01 with a single Defective LED from Banggood.

I’ve then purchases 2 sets of dx80 from GearBest.
Clarified with Imalent that these are indeed Gen 2 sets as the Gen 1 sets had some issues.
Both came DOA!

First light out from the box, OLED screen not working.

Well least I had another one which was perfectly working, so as i thought until i looked at the LED when the light was on.
2 LEDs are only half lighted up.
Is this supposed to happen?

The LEDs on the set with defective OLED screen seems to have one half lighted XHP70.2

With Sticker on - Set with defective OLED

Man I’m so sorry to hear… Can’t believe you got two, and both of them have issues. Half of the emitter lighting up is a typical gen1 issue (before the recall). Have you contacted the vendor or Imalent?

One was an intended X’mas gift for a buddy.

I’ve contacted Imalent regrading the defect, and verified that these are Gen2 sets.

Imalent suggested that i contact Gearbest for returns.
But as we all know Gearbest After sales support = No reply until a paypal case is lodged.
Been almost a week still no reply from GearBest, will escalate the case by the end of next week.

You could contact member CSgearbest first before starting a Paypal dispute; maybe she can help.

Thanks for the heads up! Will contact CSgearbest.
Hope the exchange can be done before X’mas which is highly unlikely.

Have you checked if the LEDs light up completely in the higher modes?

Large Cree LEDs aren’t guaranteed to work at very low currents. It could be normal behavior.

Lowest output of DX80 is about 100 lumens, so roughly 10 lumens per XHP70.2. Isn’t this more than enough to light up completely?

Nope, official minimum is around 170-180 led lumens per LED (105mA with 12V config).

I’ve tried looking at 500 lumens & 1500 lumens with a Camera ND filter over the light, partially lighted as well, for turbo at 32,000 i’ve not tried , will be blinded!

And what did you see?
You could also try using your camera with short exposure.

Make me hesitate to buy DX80. What could cause it to light up half led?

It’s random because of production tolerances.

It makes no difference in actual use when you have this many LEDs.

He will let you know as soon as he can see the keyboard again

Will try using a taking a pic of the LED at turbo tonight.
I’m pretty sure these are the same items recalled from the Gen1 DX80.
For both pieces to have QC issues, thats worrying.

So far no reply from GearBest CS after a week , whatever happened to replies within 24 hours.
PM CSGearBest and told to email support@gearbest.com which they dont reply.

Imalent did however ask me to ship the heads back which shipping cost will be covered by me.
they did mention that they will include an Imalent DM21T as a gift. But that defeats the purpose, bought one as a X’mas gift, but the time they receive my package and ship out , it will be 2018

Wont the half lit LED produce less lumens?

Think about how many led dies this flashlight has and how many of those are not lit up. You can’t tell the difference by eye.

It’s not imalents fault. The only way around this is using pwm.

If I’m not mistaken, the leds don’t light up at higher levels as well (#10).

Ah ok, I missed that part of the sentence. At 1500lm they should all be lit.
