Apple Iphone Debacle: Processor slowing / bad batteries?

By now, most of you have probably heard about Apple and the ongoing Iphone battery/processor-slowing escapade.

I was gifted a factory new 6S recently and so I guess I have a new phone with an aged battery?

I wonder if Apple will replace my battery for FREE since it was purchased NEW instead of the $29 fee they are about to offer beginning in late January 2018 and running through Dec 2018 ?

I wonder if they will issue an update to return the processor to full speed, as it should be, once new batteries are installed?

All aside, maybe I should consider a Droid… :weary: :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually…other phones suffer the battery issues constantly. I deal with the crap all the time where Android users complain thier phone have weird issues crop up as their phone ages past the 12-18 month stage. They swear it can’t be the battery, we wipe the phone, and yet it persists.

From the stuff I heard/read, there is no firmware update necessary. You/they just have to change the battery, and done. To make that possible, the device must save the battery connection date in a file. So every time a battery gets connected, the date gets saved.

But that’s just all I’ve read, it could be wrong…

Firedome, you really completely wipe your android and it’s still slow? I completely wipe it and reinstall a new ROM when it gets slow. And after that it’s fast again.

They showed you middle finger instead of sending OTA bringing back speed.

My 6s plus has a battery with 76 % of the 100% when it was new. Works fine, no problems. But Apple decided to slow down my 1000 euro phone without telling me. That’s not good. They are not honest if you ask me. It’s a great phone, but just give the right info to the customers. Why not?

It's called Herding

I have a 6 month old iPhone 6S that looses 2/3 of its charge in 5 hours
I have Bluetooth on all the time but not the hotspot
My last phone, the plain 6 acted the same way

iPhone 6 is sooo yesterday’s tech :person_facepalming:

Just buy the latest model :smiling_imp:

Just kiddin’, stop buying this overpriced crap!

Wonder if this is the same dealio with Ipads ?

ooopps I meant… apple is evil . :smiling_imp:

Since I posted about my iPhone 6S I have been to the Apple Store.
Hundreds of angry people in line, all with a story. I waited about 30 minutes only to be told that the line for the “assessment” was 2 1/2 hours long and IF they decided I really needed a new battery, that would take another hour and a half.

So I made an appointment for tomorrow at 2:55

My phone is so bad that I loose about 5% per minute when in camera mode.
It’s as though mine has an UltraFire in it

BTW, my wife, who has had nothing but iPhones and iPads is DONE with Apple, for reasons other than battery issues. At work, they ditched the iPads for those in the field and switched to Surface. Much better for what they do.
I have to admit though, nothing beats my iPad mini for surfing the web.

I found the link below on line: put your serial number in and check if your phone is suspect. Mine came back with following result:

***The serial number you entered is not eligible under this program because either: - It's not one of the serial numbers in the affected range OR - Our records show that your battery has already been replaced. If you paid for a battery replacement service, check with Apple to see if you are eligible for a refund.***

Dont know if this is gospel or not but hoping so.

So, did they only slow the affected serial numbers or all of em ? With OTA techno, I’m betting only the serial numbers that were affected were slowed. But wth do i know? :innocent:

Slowing down devices is as old as Apple. I had iphone 4s. I refused OTA and with 6.1.3 my phone was 2x faster than my friends with 8.x

Only certain units had this problem, and in response, Apple went with the CHEAPEST and SNEAKIEST :confounded: fix.

In hindsight, I’ll bet that Apple now realizes that they screwed up when trying to sweep it under the rug. And offering the $50 battery discount is just about equal to an admission of guilt IMO.

Shame on Apple. :expressionless:

I had similar issues with my Nexus 5x. After every new update the phone got slower and I ended up having to get it replaced after it fully bricked while updating. The replacement was a little better but still not great and that one ended up having issues with the power button so I sold it on eBay. From now on I’m just going to buy cheap phones since I don’t have much luck with any phone lasting more than a year or two. An added benefit is the cheaper phones tend not to get updates a frequently. My latest phone is a Moto e4 plus which I got for $99 and then paid $1-2 for an unlock code on eBay. It does what I need it to and the battery lasts for two days. I’m not sure any phone under $200 has a decent camera so that is the main thing I miss.

Apple should have told people. There is a good reason for their power management, but there’s a conflict of interest since it makes people buy new iPhones. Even worse, a lot of people on the Internet are misinterpreting the news. All the masses understand is, “Apple slows down old phones.” It might dent their reputation more than it ought because of misinformation.

Don’t forget Apple CEO Tim Cook gets a huge raise bonuses (98million)and is ordered to fly by private jet .

The discharge cycles on LiPO batteries is limited, the more cycles it goes through the less capacity it has, and also outputs less current.
If a phone is brand new then the battery will have pretty much 0 cycles on it and should not have any performance decrease.

The software updates to reduce battery power consumption will extend the usable life of the device at the cost of a slightly lower number when you run a benchmark.

that’s why i hate apple, they dont give people CHOICES
if they say that to maintain same battery runtime with old battery, they have to slow down phone, so why dont give people choice to NOT SLOW DOWN their phone and have a shorter runtime
they think customers are stupid that can’t even make such a simple decision
