An Unfair Giveaway (updates at end of post)

Life’s not fair and neither is this giveaway.
I get lights every now and then and they add up. I have fun with them for a bit but then fall back into my old EDC favorites.
Could sell them and buy more lights but I’m hoping that giving them away will not only brighten someone else’s day but help me focus on what’s important to me.
It’s not like I don’t have others, these are just some that really need to get used and there just aren’t enough hours of darkness in a day.

How to win a light:
Post a link (instructions below) to an unedited post from no earlier than 2016* and prior to this post where you mention that you’re saving up for a light and just don’t have the money for one at the moment.
Your post doesn’t have to be about these specific lights.
Post the link in this thread and your light selection.
First posts get priority on light selection.
One light per BLF forum member.
Member must have more than 1 post.
No entries via PM, must post here to avoid confusion.
PM your name & address after posting link to comment in this thread.

Lights:
#1 Emisar D1 with lanyard ring (not installed)- - Illumenated
#2 Emisar D4 with Solarforce clip and shorty tube.- DavidEF
#3 On The Road M3- shipped
#4 Astrolux S42 with additional tube- valueseeker

New light added from anonymous BLF member!
#5 Wowtac A3-

These are used, 2 of them used more than the rest, one used not at all. (OK, it’s the S42, would be a fine light for someone who’s not obsessed with UI)
They pretty much only include what you see pictured, I’ll dig around for any other stuff associated with them, no promises

Shipping is for US only please, via USPS. For other countries I challenge those light hoarders to do some spring cleaning and send some lights to your fellow citizens!

I was inspired to give these away by other flashoholics who’ve given me lights in the past. Quentin, Pete, Mike D, Shelby, etc…

  • Will expand date range if thee are no takers.
    • If there are no qualifying posts we’ll try something else.

When you post in a thread there is a number at the top right of your comment box that is a hyperlink to your post. Copy that link and post in this thread.
Here’s a demo: I guess I really like Slim Jim's... - #12 by raccoon
That is the link that comes from clicking on Raccoon City’s comment #12 in the Slim Jim thread. The link leads right to that comment.

UPDATES

04/03/18 - A generous member has asked me to include a Wowtac A3 in the giveaway!
04/04/18 - Expanding the date range to include 2017.
04/13/18 - Wowtac A3 still available

Lovely idea. I’m not in the U.S. or saving specifically for a light, so I don’t qualify, but I appreciate what you’re doing here!

Damn what a wholesome offer here! I don’t qualify as I got too many lights but good luck to all those that needs one of these!

Interesting idea for a giveaway! To be clear, it’s only open to US residents, right?

I’m not in either, but I appreciate your GAW too. Thanks!

That Emisar D4 looks awesome, and I would be honored to receive it.

EDIT: On second thought, I'm not hurting financially so pick someone else that is.

Sorry for the confusion!

Yes, sorry if that wasn’t clear. I want to keep it as simple as possible.

If I am saving to pay my CC bill for the lights I JUST bought (too many of)… would that qualify? :stuck_out_tongue:

1/2 the lights I did buy are gifts to be given to several good friends and family, and glad to see you “pay it forward” here to forum members who can use them.

Good form Bansuri! :face_with_monocle:

Couple quick things:
HUUUUUGE shoutout to Raccoon City for pointing out my editing mistake, “prior to this post” got left out and he humorously pointed out this loophole!

Also thanks for the kind words. I couldn’t find a way to search for likely recipients and reluctantly posted this publicly. Wanted to avoid being a virtue signaler or trying to score any points.
I’ve been on the receiving end of generosity plenty of times.
Getting unused lights into eager flashoholics hands is a better way to honor a light than have it sitting in a drawer.

Very nice giveaway bansuri.

Lol, I was contemplating and finally could not affort the Acebeam X80. Does that count?

No, I usually can affort the hobby (and I’m not in the USA) so I’m not in.

Thanks for the very nice giveaway!

I think all this contest is going to do is piss off everyone outside the US and the rules are so specific there will be no winners!
Hitting the sack, may have to change the scope of the giveaway to make it happen.

I’m worried that even though this is BudgetLightForums the folks that come here will skip a meal or two to help pay for the lights and wouldn’t post their financial woes in public.
I’m an idiot.

I still think this is a nice giveaway, and find it kind of heroic to skip meals for a flashlight, I would report that

I don’t think many people really struggle to save for a flashlight, what they do is put off buying what they see as a luxury they don’t really need until next month, then next month, etc.

I know I often make the mistake of not buying a $50 light I really want, but in the same month I might buy 3 $10 lights and a $20 light I don’t really want but can’t resist because they seem like irresistible bargains and not a big outlay. In retrospect I would have preferred the $50 light in the end and would have spent the same, or in many months actually less, especially since each collection from the post office costs another $2.

Agreed. I have a BLF Q8 that cost me almost $300. I kept putting if off for months because I thought it was too expensive. Bought lots of other lights but, not the Q8. If I had only not bought the other lights and got the Q8 I would have saved myself money.

Great GAW by the way. Awfully nice concept. Hope you get those lights into some deserving hands.

There are lots of posts around BLF where I mention that I can’t afford a particular light, even though I’d love to own it. I haven’t ever successfully “saved up” for a light, although I’ve had that intention a time or two. I don’t know if I qualify overall, though. I know your intention is for someone to get it that is sort of a beginner. I have lots of lights, just not very many nice ones. Most of the lights I own are either under $10 or were received in giveaways I’ve won in the past. Those lights you’re giving away are all lights that I’ve wanted and couldn’t afford in the past. So anyway, here’s my entry: Group Buy: Wuben TO10R and TO46R (real 90+CRI triple XP-G3) - CLOSED!! - #81 by DavidEF and my light selection would be the Emisar D4.

If these posts count, I’m in. Interested in any but the On the Road, I’d like to stick with 18650 cells atm. I guess 1st choice would be whatever has the most throw, or D1 since David put the D4 as first choice.

Bansuri,

You have inspired me and I’m going to give some extra lights away to a few local people in my town who work hard for little money like my town manager to start: He’s always out at 2am checking on the water tower or something else he maintains for us 24/7. Every time I’ve called- he’s been there to help with whatever was needed. He gets paid little and he works hard— a lot at night-time. So he’s the perfect candidate for a C8 (which I have in the hand to give him).

If you still have them to give away, perhaps your contest might be expanded to include: “WHO does a BLF member know who can use one of these lights” — and qualify it as your gift to be re-gifted to someone they KNOW (in their own community) who could use it?

Just a thought (and my town manager is already covered thanks to your inspiration). :+1:

Again… what a great idea!
