Amazon raises their Prime subscription to $119.00

Do you think it’s worth it?

I still have 11 months left on the old price of $99.00 a year.

Amazon is greedy. They make more than enough and want to charge more. The only reason I will not continue with Prime is because I do not buy that much to make it worth the increase. I buy every now and then.

I will terminate when the current plan is done

I may terminate the plan as well. We don’t watch amazon movies, listen to amazon music, and there’s not many free Prime kindle books I’m interested in. $119 dollars buys a lot of shipping. Amazon may see a mass defection.

I never got Prime. Every time I considered it I immediately think “I’d rather have a new Zebralight every year.” Well now Prime is priced high enough to get 2 ZLs every year

The only time I looked into Prime, I was only interested in the video service. However, it doesn’t work with Google Chromecast, which is what I use on all our TV’s. All the providers (Apple, Google, Amazon) want to lock you into their bundle of services, and exclude all others. I don’t like that.

I’ve got one Apple product (which I hate because it won’t work with anything else), a few Windows PC’s, and everything else is some version of Google. I don’t want to get another incompatible service with a different company.

here in Spain prime costs 19,95€, but it only includes free shipping, prime video (launched last year) and prime photos (although only pictures are unlimited). rumors say the cost will rise to about 60€ soon adding other services like music, but the current option is much better for me

not effective on renewals until 6/16/2018
mine is 5/22/2018 :money_mouth_face:

They have to cover the cost of offering $70.00 Prime memberships for welfare freeloaders.

I never got prime a 100 dollars a year is to much. When I need something I just try to get 35 dollars worth and use the free shipping option

I share it with my son so not so bad. UPS charges have gotten out of control . FedEx a little better.

I wish they split the services like that in the US.

Definitely worth it.

I love Amazon.

I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon, so $99 a year was worth it for the 2-day free shipping. Raising their membership to $119 is out of line IMO. I won’t renew because Jeff Bezos is a greedy SOB. Like he need more money…lol!

I agree the current increase is excessive, although I still likely get my money’s worth out of it.

They are charging more because of all the money they are putting into their Entertainment business I think. All those new free Prime TV series and old shows and movies do cost money. Now they are becoming more like a Cable company you pay a huge fee, even if you don’t use all the channels.

The shipping has not been free ever, but recently their prices have increased even more so you can see that so called free shipping is less and less of an advantage. Although you do get very good shipping for the price as most of the time they meet their 2 day delivery which would cost more. If you don’t need it in 2 days though you are not really saving.

Still although they are not perfect, and you can’t rate them on their site, they are still much more reliable and easier to deal with than 99% of the sites out there.

The fee seems over the top, they make enough money on their products and services. I’m worried it is just going to be increased again next year, when will they stop.

I can’t remember when my membership completes, but if I stop it, I will save a lot of money, so maybe it’s about time I did. I have used it to watch some programs on FireTV, but I’m almost done with that too.

Same here. The extra $20 a year is not going to stop us from getting it. We are too hooked on Amazon and its 2-day-shipping at this point, getting 5 or more packages from Amazon every single week. Wife even buys paper towels and toilet paper from there.

There used to be a report on Amazon that would tell you exactly how much you saved by shipping with Prime. It’s either gone or I can’t find it anymore.

I mostly use Prime for shipping. The problem is that Amazon’s free “2 day” shipping is frequently longer than 2 days. The actual transit time might be 2-3 days but it sometimes takes a week before it actually ships.

Looking at my purchases for last year, Prime still makes sense - especially if I want consistently faster shipping. And Amazon has always been great about returns…Newegg, Kmart, Breast Buy and Walmart have all given me problems.

the 5% rebate on the credit card is convenient to cash in, not having to wait for a yearly check

Enjoy the early prime access deals and blowouts that come along, hooked on the 2 day (sometimes 1 day as we are near 2 Amazon Whse’s)
With gas right at $3 a gallon here in high gas tax PA, a few trips saved from not having to travel to get things that cost more or the same will cover the cost of Prime.
Plus I save all the boxes. Come in handy when shipping gifts to relatives.
When I sold on epay years ago found out real quick how expensive good boxes can get.

Most of all we love the Man in the High Castle, can’t wait for the new season to drop.

$79 here in Canada. I've had it for two years and it has paid out because of the fast shipping, or more often than not, an add on item will ship free without purchasing anything else if you have prime.
