BTW, I suspect Lumintops ODF30 of having a similar layout (no driver retaining ring and switch attached to driver). No one has been able to loosen the glue on the battery tube yet.
I may try to heat it up real good, but not so hot to melt the rubber button cover or discolor the finish, and see if I can use my leather welding gloves to twist that sucker apart.
Well, I got the ODF30 apart. As suspected, the switch is attached to the driver and it has the same indexing ears as the GT Mini.
It was an absolute pain to get apart requiring a vice, heat gun and rubber strap wrench. I have pictures in my ODF30 thread. It’s a Boost driver, so that part is obviously not similar to the Buck driver in the GT Mini.
I really hope Lumintop doesn’t glue it, or at least uses something weaker than this blue thread locker.

This is not the buck driver that we were promised with…
I bought it BECAUSE it was supposed to be regulated at 4,5A…
I don’t care for a hotrod, if the final version is a FET+1 driver it’s overpriced

They include our first glimpse at the driver. I hope steel_1024 doesn’t mind if I link them here:
That is most certainly not a buck driver, and I’m no longer excited for this light. It’s effectively a D1S that looks like a GT.
Regardless of whether this makes more sense with the factory emitter, what I was really looking forward to is putting a Nichia 119D/219D in one. Those emitters have a glass plate between the phosphor and the dome that’s very promising for dedomed performance in a thrower. They also have quite low forward voltage, making a FET driver pretty much a non-option.

Ceilingbounce – flashlight testing and runtime graphs for Android
I’m of the same opinion as zak; in fact I no longer want the light if it’s going to use the same FET+1 drive as the D1S – I’d rather have the D1S in that case, if anything. I’ve emailed neal to cancel.
Please confirm what type of driver will be in the GT mini BEFORE shipping them.
If it’s a FET+1 I’ll simply ask for a refund.
Why ? False advertisement, simply that.
If they choose to send it before stating what type of driver is in, then I’ll make a claim on PayPal asking for a full refund.
Why ? False advertisement.
I may sound irritated… because I am. I already own a D1S, no need for another one in a slightly different design.

Email sent to Neal to cancel my order.
Maybe I will not buy my FW3A after all… If Lumintop doesn’t know the difference between a FET driver and a buck driver…
The last user manual still mention a buck driver !

"-X3-, is there any place in your house without a flashlight ?"
At 4.5A, an XPL HI would have an extremely high forward voltage of 3,75V.
A buck driver is almost useless for regulated output on turbo, which it will only do for a few minutes. To extend that regulated runtime on turbo, you would need to bypass springs, use a lower VF 4000k LED, use a better buck driver with a lower resistance.
Had it used a buck boost driver instead, I would have been fine paying 10-15$+ for the light. That would have made it the literally perfect pocket thrower of 2018.
On the other hand, I… for one… am happy about the driver change. I can simply flash Anduril and carry on.
Since Narsil is so very different from Hanks IOS firmware, this isn’t much like a D1s at all. Much more refined, with a dramatically more advanced UI. Since I prefer Anduril and the IOS firmware is an abbreviated version of this, the ease of converting it to the firmware of my choice is a rare treat. Thanks Lumintop, nice upgrade.
shipping might start end of this or early next week
TA made some last improvements in the UI and Lumintop wanted to deliver all lights with that last version.
Sorry for the delay, but I am sure it's worth the wait

The finish looks shinier than on the GT. Did they use the same finish or a different one? Maybe I’m not seeing it right.
The pics in post #1 seem to have a flatter finish which matches the GT.
The logo is definitely better than the old one.

The finish looks almost like the sand convoy c8+ i like that, steel always takes amazing photos of lights.
Lumintop should hire steel maybe to take promo pics of their newest lights.

Originally, members were signing up via the form in the first post of M4DM4X’s group buy thread.
He recently said that public sales would start on Tuesday July 17, and that the password to purchase would be removed then.
It appears the GT mini is now listed publicly on the Neal’s Deals page of M4DM4X’s site.
thats correct!
