I would be extremely interested in a GT w/ XHP35 HI making 3MCD or a GT w/ XHP70.2 making 2MCD

The opening in this collar is small so light from the edges of the large 70.2 die may not fill out the complete lens, a sort of vignetting, effectively reducing the die size and output. Throw may not be affected.

Marinebeam replied and said the reason why the coupon did not work was because I had free shipping because my order exceeded $100. You can either get 10% off or Free Shipping. If that’s the case, there’s really no incentive to purchase more than $100.

Ridiculous. A real outlaw policy if you ask me

I just got an email SKV89 and contactcr:

“Our customer service got a message today about some problems with the free shipping on orders over $100. This is my fault. When I set up the group discount code, I didn’t realize that it automatically disabled the free shipping. This is because the web platform can’t support two discount coupons or promotions on the same order (makes sense actually). I can’t change it now, or everyone will really be confused when they try to use a discount code that won’t work, but any US customers that got stiffed on the shipping can contact customer service by email at info@marinebeam.com, and we will rebate them the $6.95 for US shipping. Might take a day or two to process.

For anyone who is still considering ordering, just put a note in the comment section to refund the shipping amount. US customers by USPS only.
Sorry for the confusion.”

Im confused with what they are saying. I interpret that email to say they intended to allow both free shipping and 10% 00coupon to be applied on orders over $100.

However the email response I got today said they can only refund me the difference between the 10% coupon and free shipping because only one discount can be applied. They refunded me that difference so I still have to pay shipping.

It sounds like you spoke to someone that did not know what was going on and Enderman spoke to the guy in charge. I would take endermans response over the one you got.

They just fixed the site, now you should be able to get both the free shipping and discount code.

They sent me another email:
To correct my previous statement – the coupon code was set up to exclude free shipping offers but we have changed it to apply both. You’ll see a refund for $6.95 to your purchase method as well.

Great, glad you got your refund.
Anyone purchasing from now on shouldn’t have any problem getting both free shipping and 10% discount Smile

They really should get a clue before calling the GT some Chinese/Russian “outlaw” light though..

I didn’t read it that way. I think they were saying they would support efforts to build such a beast so you didn’t need to have a wavien collar made by an “outlaw” group.

Technically it would be outside the law to sell commercially a device that uses a patented technology (without a contract), that’s what was meant.

Even after arranging a legitimate buy of collars they chose to use the term. I think I know what was meant by it. Lumping our own purpose built and unique lights into their counterfeit warning is pretty low. If you want to remind us of the terms of the purchase and offer to collaborate on a licensed light you definitely do not have to word it like that.

No he specifically said it is fine for you to build you own unique lights or use the collars for research.
He was even aware of what the GT is and how much work BLF put into it, so clearly he cares about the flashlight community.
The discussion I had with him was about mass production retail lights like the GT.
Getting a chinese manufacturer to make a flashlight with a collar is definitely possible, as you may have seen from my previous thread about making my own collars using cheap chinese spherical mirrors, but selling lights that use it would be against the law because Meadowstar is regulating the patent.
Don’t be one of those people that gets offended for literally no reason.
Everyone is aware of how easy it is to get some chinese manufacturers to make fake products and infringe on IP.

As anyone read the patent?

I’m curious how detailed something like this gets.

“In many things in order to truly understand the small picture you have to understand the big picture first.”

True Color Rendition (TCR)/Simplified Definition: “On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest rating, a TCR will equate to what true colors you see in sunlight vs the same object’s colors you see when illuminated with a flashlight. The closer the two are, the higher the TCR rating will be.”

The TCR Reference Standard is the Walmart Ozark Trail OT 50L , Model No. 6103.
It has a TCR rating of ‘10’. $1.00 including batteries.

Playing with my GT and MF-04 last night,I disliked those huge circles of light around the central beam,so I would like to do something to eliminate them, one way or the other, and the collar could be one of them. So,I wait and see hoping that this could be possible. Question

I think you might have linked the wrong one ;).

Here are the actual patents for the collar: US8979308B2:“Wavien%2c+Inc” ,

They actually started by incorporating a collar into a light pipe. Then later they had the idea to also use just the collar with lenses.

Aspheric flashlights have no spill, but you need to use an aspheric lens, you can’t use the collar with a reflector Sad

Do you think that it is possible to put a aspheric lens to the GT or the MF-O4/?I prefer the second one, because I could convert the GT to a many lumens 70.2 light. Smile

I have ordered this fresnel lens: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/round-acrylic-fresnel-lens-diameter-130mm... It sould fit.
A possible lens is http://www.optolife.com/singlet_lens/A037.html
Here you can see pictures of this lens in the GT: https://www.taschenlampen-forum.de/threads/wavien-kragen-collars-in-zuku...

I don’t think 70.2 will work great with Wavien collar :

Also , keep in mind that light recycling works better with dedomed leds , at least they mention surface matters , like dedomed xp-g2 etc .
